Long con, meta-troll, disinfo agent or wishful thinker...quote:His sources are real, and they're also intentional. It's an ongoing thing that people in the CIG offices have set up, sort of like a 'volunteer as a source' deal, in which they can totally tell Derek whatever they want, as long as it fits the narrative, since the whole joke is sunk if Derek figures it out (which it seems like he did). The biggest false note here is the implication that Derek never had legit sources inside CIG- that the leaking was always a part of a company-endorsed initiative. That we know is false. After all, those suspected sources got him some bonafide scoops, and a couple of them eventually got fired under suspicions of being Smart sources. Now, I recognize this could be someone else's version of i_still_trust_cig so if I'm stepping on anybody's toes here, my apologies. But- while I don't believe the "all CIG sources are secretly sanctioned by management" bullcrap, I have at least entertained the possibility that CIG eventually wised up and started getting semi-Machiavellian in response. Sometimes the best way to combat leaks is with floods.
