Toops posted:The thing that really cooks me is that CIG poached like 8 senior CryTech devs. This was the proverbial "doubling down" on CryEngine, but Crobberts made a terminal miscalculation: CryEngine is a wonky, crappy engine compared to UE and Unity, and who do you think are the ones responsible for that? Yes. Remember back when I said that he could hire CryTek and still not be able to make THAT game with THAT engine? So far, I'm still on track with that assessment.

Derek, quick question - over the course of this debacle, there's been one thing you've been consistently unclear on: whether or not any of the events related to Star Citizen have been things you've already thought of, talked about, or perhaps blogged about in the past. I'd be interested in listening if you decide to change it up a bit and let us know if you predicted any of these things before any of them came to pass. Not asking you to leave your comfort zone if you don't want to, but I think it would be educational for some of us to hear about it, if true.

To be fair, a competent team can stretch that engine, and it has been used for MMO's before. Aion has no spaceships, but it is a persistent world able to render hundreds of players in the same place. I think they could have actually built something close to what they wanted if they'd had had proper management. However they're completely incompetent so in the end it doesn't matter what engine they use.

Sounds pretty complex. My method is to ask them how many a's there are in "paaaaaarp!" but don't show them the "paaaaaarp!" bit, obviously. Because then they'd know.
