In all seriousness though, as some else said your a hero for opening some people's eyes. I never bought into SC but a few friends have. I've been trying to get them to do a refund to no avail. On a very serious note, one of my backer friends was recently talking to me about how he's going to lose his house and how he would rather keep his $12,000 worth of jpegs over keeping his home. He is B'tak levels of nuts since his personal life went to poo poo and I don't know what to do with him anymore. He basically said if he refunds that you have won. He won't save his house because he hates Derek Smart.

I've never seen a video game that is as financially exploitative as this. And there's a lot of exploitative games but this by far the worst. It's closer to casino gambling, an industry which was at one point run by actual mobsters.

SC fans will say "oh, well people can afford it" or "who are YOU to tell people what they can spend their hard-earned doubloons on!" And sure, there are rich people who blow stupid MC Hammer amounts of money, and $12k isn't much for some people, but for the most part, well-off people stay well-off because they don't spend as much as working/middle class schlubs like us (well, me) tend to think, let alone on video games which promise aspirational escapism.

Edit: I'm hardly a financial expert, but people who stay in the black spend wisely .... and save. They watch their finances like a hawk. And unless they're truly fuckoff rich tend not to fritter their money away on needless luxuries.

I would almost guarantee that most people spending $10k+ on Star Citizen cannot afford it.
