Get up, chief. We're just gettin' started.

Also SQ42's story starts with insomnia-busting scenes of inventory management and an awkward tour led by a dork.

I don't know what IW's story starts with, but you know it's going to be some dope as gently caress poo poo because that's what CoD does.

I actually kind of understand the shitizens' belief that CoD:IW will probably be a heavily scripted, on-rails shooter. Why wouldn't it be given CoD's history? IW and SQ42 probably don't have the same focus; like DSizzle said IW is probably shootmans first, spaceships second. IW will come out, make a billion dollars, and Activision will keep on trucking and not give a poo poo about SQ42.

Now if CRobbers made the mistake of turning SQ42 into shootmans first, spaceships second, then both games do have the same focus and he's doomed.

Didn't EightAce say they had made it pretty FPS heavy, because they couldn't figure out any fun missions in space a while back?

I remember the script leak being heavy on looking for batteries to open doors.

I don't know, but it would be a bad sign that Chris "Wing Commander" Roberts couldn't figure out how to make a fun space mission.

Then again, Elite Dangerous doesn't have very complicated missions, but they are fun because the combat is fun and the flying feels great. Features that Star Citizen notably lacks.

While Games Workshop are utter poo poo I'll still praise them for licensing out their IP's to pretty much anyone these days. While you get weird poo poo like 40k Chess there's also awesome games like a recreation of Warhammer Quest, Herald of Oblivion, a chose your own adventure book about a Terminator on a Space Hulk and Armageddon, More or less Titan on a hex grid. Also, Deathwing looks aces.
If they at some point put out a fantasy bowling game with orks chucking squigs at rows of gobbos I for one am glad of it.

What will probably happen is CoD:IW will come out first, then 6 months later SQ42 will come out. A ton of people who enjoyed the COD:IW will hear about SQ42 and buy it thinking they will get a similar experience. CoD:IW might generate a lot of sales for SQ42 it might not have gotten in this manner. However: Those new players will now be horribly disappointed as CR's semi-interactive movie is worse in every measureable level, generating tons of negative buzz for SQ42 and SC in general.

I expect SQ42 to do a lot of things poorly. Now there is going to be a highly polished 6 hour single player Space+FPS game that does a few things very well.

CoD:IW is a terrible thing happen to SQ42: People will actually have a good game to compare it to in the genre.

Just remember that there is 3 parts with several chapters each.

So like 15 parts or 12 or some poo poo. Erin roberts said so awhile back, and no ones said a word since.

Backers and whatnot get the first 2 "chapters" for free, rest you got to buy.

Good luck with that.

Why would CoD players, FPS centric arcade shooter fans, buy SQ42 a space simulation movie/game?

Why would any of them buy this game when the fans are getting the original Modern Warfare (the most nostalgic COD)?

I'm expecting SQ42 to be canceled or barred from release due to CIG bouncing Gillian Anderson's paycheck

Because after watching CoD:IW get tons of praise and sales, CR is gonna direct the full force of his 110 million dollar commercial-making-studio to trying to appeal to that market.

discussions like this really bring them out. nothing is set in stone if its even been mentioned how any of this will work, yet every single post is some elaborately worked out fantasy about how the mechanics will work. Every answer is different and they all just merrily talk past each other completely content the version in their head is exactly how it will be.

Edit: the link dumps to the end of the thread, i meant to link to the front page.

As per usual according to illogicalanalsol, all the features are in there already, they just need mechanics added to them, then they can be switched on.

He completely ignores the previous year worth of Crobblers and the gang saying "It's weeks not months away" then *silence* and then "It's already in there, it's in 2.0, stop annoying us" and now "It's not in yet, It'll be switched on when it's ready, after 2.4". How do they manage to do this much obscene headfuckery and blatant lying with a straight face consistently? :munch:

The other game changer is sony launching in the fall with theirs. I think it is $449 but not 100% sure.

Ok - I'll bite.

1) I don't know. My hope is that mocapped animations, noted actors (whatever grade they may be), and an engaging script will save grace. And before any of that gets torn-apart: I don't think the script that was released was real, and if so, perhaps a very early draft. It was kind of horrible.

2) CiG might decide to allow a benefit for completing SQ42, such as in game reputation or standing. While not required to play, it may bolster your character somehow. Yet to be seen. Plus, there are apparently 2 other episodes to be released in subsequent years.

3) The PU (non-existent as it is right now) is supposed to get it's start in 2.4 with BASIC mechanics such as the introduction of a currency that will stay throughout Alpha and an in-game, front-end store that is finally tied to your backend database. If they can properly implement server cpu scaling, utilize GCE with Google's cloud as promised and magically implement this zoned-instance within an instance within an instance that has been discussed, then perhaps they can pull it off.

4) The asset leak from 14/15 showed (at least at the time) that CiG is capable of working on multiple things at once (And in volume) than what is shown to the backers (my gripe with open development again). I don't think they've stopped this model, and I think that there are likely assets and development that is still underway, but simply kept from us, as a surprise element.

5) I don't. I've said on RSI forums, reddit, and here that you should only back if you want to further development of the project. Once the economy design elements are shared with us, I hope (yes - I've said hope quite a few times) that it's fleshed-out and sensical enough that someone does not need to spend 30,000 hours grinding to afford a Constellation.

:bravo:

See how easy that was, compared to the alternative (rhymes with: avoidance) and for which you're getting rimmed?

Think about it though. Chris Roberts really has saved PC gaming. Not in the way he intended to but in a way that is probably infinitely more valuable to the gaming community.

Not only did he manage to basically unite the worst of the worst individuals, who show signs of mental illness, sociopathic, pedophile or otherwise violent, aggressive and unhealthy tendencies in their postings and behaviour, in a single, easily avoidable "community". He also indirectly gave us "How much are you in for?" as the next "Do you have stairs in your house?", only tailored to easily identify and avoid the aforementioned undesirable members of the gaming world.

So Star Citizen actually has at least this benefit to PC gaming in general.
And no, I am not joking, some people in that community should probably be locked away for their own safety and that of others. As much as we laugh about their ideas of "space rape", "the Stimpire" etc., publicly posting about your fantasy to rape people or publishing your torture porn? There are some very sick people in that community. I would feel really uneasy if I knew one of these people in real life.

I remember the Stimpire thing. What was this about "space rape"? Is that the other extreme end of the PvP slider from "I want to be immune to pirate attacks because I just want to peacefully ship space-cargo like a worse, more expensive E:D?"
