In a similar vein as Human Remains, though more weird and goofy than ugly is Lethargy, which split up when half the band joined Today is the Day, then later started some other band whose name escapes me.

You're thinking of Sulaco.

And yeah, Lethargy are ok. Not great in my opinion though. Speaking of weird/goofy twisted death metal, you reminded me of Mass Psychosis, whose album Necroporno has been aptly described as "Atheist after sustaining brain damage from being beaten with an assortment of frozen meats".

I was thinking about seeing Immolation too. Sorta leaning towards not going right now. I haven't really kept up with their recent stuff and I really couldn't give less of a poo poo about Origin or Marduk.

They're playing with local cool dudes Heresiarch here and there's one show for the whole drat country that has almost sold out the presales already because the venue is small, so I've already got a ticket even though the show is in september.

Awesome, been looking forward to this.

This reminds me, I was listening to Obscura the other day and man, that is a hosed up album... Does anyone have any examples of death metal that is that abrasive and dissonant made before 1998? My old metal knowledge is not good.

Early Martire maybe? You'd probably like their album more(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTxIB2yP9UE), but that didn't come out until 2012.

The Vektor album is good and all, but good loving lord this Gorguts is some of the best music I've ever heard. I'm spoiled rotten by music lately but Pleiades' Dust is so good I've been poring over the artwork and lyrics all day long since the record arrived in the mail today. I just don't do that much anymore.

I like the atmosphere thing they got going on now. Death metal deathspell omega I guess.

dunno if there are any high schoolers in here who still care about folk metal, but eluveitie's hurdy gurdyist/vocalist, drummer, and guitarist called it quits today. this follows on the loss of their permanent violinist and their bagpiper. they're probably dunzo

I think it might be better than Colored Sands. The use of the long form is really uh useful; the quieter ambient/clean arpeggios are allowed go on much longer than they do in any other Gorguts record. This really gives them time to breathe and adds a kool ambiance. I've listened to the album like 6 times since someone posted a stream lol this album rules so much.

New Vektor and Grave Miasma really rip, also. It's a good time to be alive IMO.

Most black/crust isn't very good, even though both black metal and crust punk are really good individually. I wonder if that's because the people who tend to mix the two don't have a very comprehensive knowledge of black metal? They usually only seem to be very familiar with the Scandinavian scene.

Carach Angren were entertaining when I saw them w/ Inquisition, so I'm looking forward to them again; also super nice guys when I met them after their set.

But broadly yeah I'm with you, I'm totally over showing up in time for the very first openers.

If there is one band that has saturated the US touring circuit besides Slayer, it's Dying Fetus. You'll be able to see them again in another 3 to 6 months, I'm sure.

I don't find most neo-thrash all too bad. Some of it is homogenous but there's also a lot to love.

I'm not really into eluveitie but they were playing 10 minutes from my home and ironically not many folk bands come to finland. They were pretty boring but Skálmöld was there too and they were awesome and now I'm a fan.
