Every time I see one of these videos, I end up trying to work out what blew up. Hmm, I know roughly how big that building was, so I know roughly how much earth was thrown up, and we have a video so I know how it was accelerated, and I can tell how fast the "heavy" bits of reinforced concrete are going vs the stuff that got turned to a dust / air colloid rather rapidly... And then my brain times out and goes "lol".

Most of these tunnel bomb video seems to show the dust cloud blowing out a bunch of what looks like NO2. I wanna know what is doing that but I also don't want to end up on more watchlists. Edit: Apparently unwanted clouds of NO2 are a super common problem with ANFO used in mining. In short, ANFO will fart out a bunch of orange poison when subjected to all sorts of outside factors that are probably present in 100% of videotaped instances of muds blowing up tunnels. bij fucked around with this message at 18:05 on May 5, 2016 |

A bit of water and poor confinement for incomplete detonation and hey-o presto clouds of nasty gas. *Or just sacks of AN fertilizer drizzled with a bit of fuel oil. Either way.

It looked like a HEAT round that failed to detonate because it struck / skimmed the turret roof at an angle such that the fuse didn't go off. In short that tank crew are a bunch of lucky motherfuckers because if it struck an inch or two lower it would have exploded, penetrated the turret face and turned the turret into a Roman candle powered by the detonation of the ready ammunition in the tank.

The Unified Commands do not fall under the Joint Chiefs. I didn't notice Dempsey in the NSC line, but you're right about that. He shouldn't be in the diagonal line though, if this is a chain of command representation.

Not shocked. Scahill is really bad about taking the most minor of military protocols or practices and overblowing them in a myriad of ways.
