OS design with Chinese characteristics? http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/05/chinese-arm-vendor-left-developer-backdoor-in-kernel-for-android-pi-devices/ Allwinner, a Chinese system-on-a-chip company that makes the processor used in many low-cost Android tablets, set-top boxes, ARM-based PCs, and other devices, apparently shipped a version of its Linux kernel with a ridiculously easy-to-use backdoor built in. All any code needs to do to gain root access is send the text "rootmydevice" to an undocumented debugging process.

Chinese language films that are both good and made inside China by Chinese directors is a pretty small category. Jie Jiangke is cool. Zhang Yimou is sometimes cool. hmm Taiwan alone has Hou Hsiaohsien, Edward Yang, Tsai Mingliang, Ang Lee...

angel opportunity posted:Anyone who knows a lot about poo poo want to give me a basic rundown on the 1992 consensus? Like...from reading modern PRC news it sounds like the worst thing Taiwan could ever have done, because they buckle down so hard on that as Taiwan agreeing. Was it just the KMT at the time getting bullied into doing it while most of the country probably didn't want it to happen? Was it some minor token thing from Taiwan's perception that the PRC has blown wildly out of proportion? It's a thing that wasn't used at all nor well known by anyone back in 1992. It was turned into a full on diplomatic doctrine by China and KMT in the early 2000. Actual popular usage and relevancy didn't begin until 2008 or so. It stated that "there is only one China", but Taiwan (Republic of China) and PRC can have their own definition of what this statement actually meant. It's purposely ambiguous to the point where people in power can make it means whatever they want. It's dumb. KMT is dumb. China is dumb.

What are the chances that Wang Yi knows anything or can do anything at all? I get the feeling he is very confused and he probably just is given like one page of talking points that he says through a translator, then he shakes the hand for a photo and gives a confused look at the camera

The BBC were discussing the whole incident on the radio and it was hilarious, they found people who had been to China and asked their experiences of Chinese people (guess their replies) and then actually found a Chinese pr chap to defend the country and not only did he say that it was actually the British that were rude, but that Chinese drivers were better and less aggressive than the British! I laughed so hard
