Let's all list our favorite Voyager episode.

I like the one where Neelix goes on a vision quest and his dead realitives tell him life is meaningless and his religion is made up

That's because he's not an engineer.

Ok you changed the post. May I offer counterpoint: half the crew of Enterprise (the show).

Hey, look. Look, if- if you screw me on this, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, you rat bastard!
Chakotay, I think I killed my spirit animal guide thing in my vision quest because I wanted something cooler. How do I get a another one and something cooler!

If I feed it to a larger animal, does that animal become my spirit guide? Can I upgrade it like I can my pokemon on this ancient human children's toy?

edit:
You know what the show needed: 3-4 different Earth cultures that each had a different supernatural belief systems that were technically just different form of advanced cosmic awareness thing. Some Q worshippers, too. We find out that the only reason Starfleet works is that they keep these sort of people off the same ship because it's essentially mystical RF interference. Now you've got someone pissed off their walkabout is ruined by a guy on a vision quest popping in an out of it, which created feedback and gave the transcendental meditation crewman horrible nightmares that drew another dimensional creature to our universe.

No joke King of the Hill was probably more respectful towards Native Americans than Star Trek Voyager.

That's because Voyager managed to hire a total charlatan and fraud as their advisor on Native Americans.

IIRC Mulgrew has said that she acted the character this way because it's the only possible interpretation given the writing.

Not really, the producers just couldn't decide on how her character should be written, and instead of getting all the writers and producers together and hammering out a consensus they just all went off and wrote her the way they individually wanted to.

Gonna have to watch this later. I read a text transcript of one of his interviews and I wonder if this is it. He talked about basically just phoning in all of his performances past a certain point because none of the writers or anyone else gave a gently caress so he didn't either.

There was talk in the Trek thread that claimed she said in an interview that she played the character as one who's slowly losing her mind over regret and guilt for being the one who made the decision that stranded her crew in the Delta Quadrant. I've never seen that interview myself, so I can't speak to its existence.

A lot of people in the comment section got really, really angry about Beltran, too. It's amazing how many people apparently take this poo poo seriously.

I mean, I find Star Trek enjoyable enough, but obviously playing one of these cardboard characters for years and saying mostly the same stock phrases ("shields are down", "unidentified vessel approaching", "the transporter/holo-deck/warp drive is malfunctioning", etc) over and over again must be rather frustrating for a trained actor. (Though I guess the paycheck more than made up for it).
