THUNDERDOME LOSER 2023

All dogges in this thread are good dogges and I've always lol'd at idiots who insist on their dog being purebred whatever w/ papers. Every single dog I've owned was some mix of border collie / kelpie / koolie / cattle dog and dog pictured above could have any of those in it though probably not cattle dog. My elderly Kelpie x Koolie gal died of liver disease a few weeks ago and I'm picking up a Kelpie X Kelpie/ Koolie next week. I hate being undogged it's unnatural.
After a 2nd look at above dog, could be sheltie / collie based on its ears. Who cares?

This is Sony, a stray my parents took home with them about a year ago from a holiday in Thailand.

He's the sweetest dog (mostly). His vet thinks he's some kind of Basenji cross which seems about right behaviour wise, he's quite a bit bigger though and barks occasionally which Basenji's don't at all.

This lovely boy is a Dalmation/Boxer cross who is currently available for adoption at my local rescue:

They also have this big guy - no exact size listed but they say he's a "gentle giant" and probably a mastiff mix (I'm guessing there's some Dane in there too):

I have no room for moar dogges but I still have all these rescues followed on Facebook, so I see all their new animals. I wish I knew someone who needed a big ol' dog. :3:

I think he looks more mastiff-y in this pic, though maybe it's just the size:

And this is how they describe him: "He is a very loving boy who does well with dogs, cats, kids, and everyone he’s met. He loves to play ball, go to the dog park, hang out in the sun, and take naps. ." :3:

Athena has grown into full derp/gorgeous. She tops out between 35-40 pounds, and is strangely gangly/long; her neck has the flexibility of a snake; and her tail curls up over her like a scorpion's. Also getting pics of black dogs is (as noted early) really drat hard -- you can also see some of her brindling in these photos.

She is pure rural Virginia black/brindle mutt dog, which I think is a lab plus random dog parts, but since she was found with just her littermates sans mother, we have no idea. Her hobbies include eating literally goddamn everything, sniffing everything, pointing, and running forever and ever. And being a good dog :3:

Would you kindly...

We lost our 16 year old dog earlier this year. The house was too empty so we started looking for a new dog. A few weeks later we had this wonderful guy in our lives.

His name is Kaiser. We've had him for about 3 months now. He turns one this month. He was born at the shelter we rescued him from and they say he is a Tricolor Border Collie/Corgi.

He likes to play with toys a lot. Something our previous dog wasn't into. In three months time we've spoiled him with them. Pictured are two of his way too many.

Kaiser loves other dogs. We try to get him out to dog parks as often as we can.

Boss Kaiser.

He sleeps too!

We recently lost our little pommy cross whatever, Tess. I got here when I was 17, in 1997, which means she was my tiny orange dog for more than half my life.

She was a stray who arrived at the house one day and tapped on the front door. We spent months searching for her owners, but no dice. So we had her neutered, microchipped, whatever, and she was a faithful companion and fierce tiny guardian for the next 19 years (vet said she was full-grown when we got here and estimated her age at 1-2 years old, so she was something like a million billion years old when she died). I miss her lots and so does my wife even though she only knew ancient slow Tess for 5 years and missed out on active agile Tess completely.

So yesterday a guy I know pretty well told me that he'd have to give up a 6 month old puppy because his living and working situation just drastically, unavoidably changed. I said "I'll adopt him as long as he is chill with the cat.

This is Karl (well, he will be as soon as he answers to that). He's a blue heeler / dalmation, which I've never even seen before, and is currently chilling on the couch all tired after his walk. I've never seen a dog with this coloration before. He seems pretty chill for a 6 month old puppy. He's pretty disinterested in the Coco the cat, who hissed at him a little and he backed off quickly. He's sleeping on one of her blankets right now, she's sleeping near one of his, and we'll get to socialising them a little better tomorrow. He's like super super chill for a puppy though. Oh, and he's desexed, microchipped, and has his shots. It's gonna be great having a dog that can go on long walks and wants to play, Tess had zero energy for that stuff in the last 5 or 6 years (she liked leaning on your leg, scratches on the ears, sleeping in sunbeams, and patrolling the edge of the yard very very slowly).

Mutts are the best dogs, and there's a mysterious force in the universe that seems to provide me with one whenever I'm without one.

Any advice on dalmations, blue heelers, and socialising cats and dogs would be appreciated (or direct me to a better thread!). I've introduced dogs and cats several times, but never a medium sized younger dog to an older cat, so I'm kinda nervous about the whole thing like I always am when I need to do this.

E: This dog farts more than any dog I've ever met.

Heeler dogs are the best dogs (I am admittedly biased because I have two). They can get nippy, so if you don't want to be chewed on you should nip that in the bud if it starts. They also like routines, one of mine gets all huffy if we don't feed him by 6:30 AM and starts barking at us if he doesn't have dinner in his food bowl at 5:30 sharp. I haven't slept in past 6:30 in four years.

Don't know too much about dalmatians, but they're one of those breeds where if you get a well bred one they're awesome dogs but some are compete nutcases. The ones I do know (4 of them) do not like other dogs in varying degrees from "ugh go away" to "I'm gonna eat you", I don't know if that's a dalmatian thing or those particular dogs.

Tess was the best. She didn't bark much, maybe a little yap or two when someone was at the door (then whole-back-half wags when it was mysteriously people again!) and she was the friendliest chill dog I've ever met. The only thing she hated was birds in the yard. She'd stalk them like a cat, all low to the ground and slinky, but her essential dog-ness would always overcome her 5-6 meters away and she'd chase after them barking. Never caught one, and I don't think she ever really had a chance of it.

She'd also know when you were sad and come and lean on your leg. My wife's got bipolar (the type where you just get depressed, not manic), and if I couldn't tell the Mrs was having a bad day, I would have been able to notice by the way Tess wouldn't leave her side. She did the same for me when I was going through a real bad patch.

She was also super chill about cats. When the wife moved in with Coco the cat, Coco hissed at tess, Tess heaved a huuuuuge tiny dog sigh, did her sneeze of disdain, and went to bed like nothing had happened. They spent the next 4 years amiably ignoring each other.

He's not nippy, but is a little bit mouthy when he's trying to be friends. He stops if you stop him though, and he's already doing it less. Went for two big-ish walks today and he's tired as hell now, sleeping with his tongue slightly out and dreaming whatever dogs dream about when their paws move and they make tiny little yipping noises (it's sausage trees and meat frisbees, right?)

Adoption weight in December 2015 was 112 lbs. As of now he's around 80-85 lbs. I'm glad his eyes are less bulgy.

Still not sure what mix he is, but we're thinking black lab/mastiff/rottie.

That's really impressive! He looks great, and I'm sure he feels a lot better too.

This is my dog Peggy, a roughly three-year-old terrier mix I adopted about a year ago.

I've been trying to figure out what breeds she has in her, cause whatever mix she is has produced the perfect dog (to me, anyway). She's super athletic, loves to play and cuddle, incredibly social with people and dogs alike, but also cautious when things start to get a bit rough with other dogs. She's definitely part Jack Russell but she doesn't have the tendencies to aggression and possessiveness I've seen in Jack Russells. The other breed(s) is a bit hard to pin down though. I like googling various mixes and seeing how much they look like her. A woman I met on a walk the other day suggested poodle, which seemed crazy until i looked into poodles more. Her build is pretty unlike a terrier -- she's really lightweight and bouncy. Plus her fur doesn't have the same texture of just a wire-haired terrier, it's softer and finer. And maybe poodle would account for being a bit gentler than the average jack and also more timid.

At the end of the day I don't really have any idea though! Haha I think I'll have to do a genetic test thing to try and satisfy my curiosity. She's super cute and that's what's important.

This is Zaraza, and she's goddamned adorable. I got her when she was about three years old (she's nearing five, now) and the pound had no idea what she was, except that she "might be part lab? Maybe? And something else?" She had an awful name, which I quickly untrained her from, because she is wicked loving smart. I was told I was at least her third owner, and I have no idea why. She's the most well-behaved pound-dog I've ever heard of, and the most sappily affectionate creature in the history of everything forever. Also, she's stupid. So, so stupid. Dog-stupid. And I love her. Gush gush gushing gush gush blah.

Anyway, her lack of pedigree almost got me in trouble when I moved to Germany, because if you GIS "labrador-amstaff mix" this is practically the exact image you get. And Amstaffs are a banned breed in Germany. So I shilled out for a DNA test from the best veterinary school in the US (Auburn - for when your parents couldn't afford tuition at University of Alabama) and she's actually a labrador/boxer. So excited. Also explains her seemingly endless energy. Seriously, dog will run forever and never tire.

Not too sure what you mean, but if he sees birds in the yard/trees, he stops whatever he is doing and goes after them.
He's okay with the neighbor's huge dog, but if he sees the landlords dogs that are no larger than him, he goes into bark mode.
Also digs holes. like crazy.
