I'm hoping that translates to the full length.

I almost didn't click on these links because normally stoner metal is not really my thing, but you said they were local ( BC ) so I listened to them anyway and gently caress, just bought both LP's, this is really good poo poo.

So you know, if anyone else is on the fence, give both Hashteroid and Dead Quiet a chance - you might be surprised!

I think I heard Borealis from someone in this thread way back when, but I finally got around to listening to their most recent album from last year Purgatory and it's great.

Think Symphony X only Canadian and with a near identical ( if not better, I think ) vocalist than Russell Allen, this guy can loving sing, it's ridiculous.

They also list their influences as:

Sonata Arctica, Evergrey, Kamelot, Nightwish, Nocturnal Rites, In Flames, Mercenary

So you know what you're gonna get with this - synth-heavy power-prog metal.

This track is definitely waaaaay closer to Recreation Day-era Evergrey than Symphony X -- both the vocals and guitars are practically emulations of Tom S. Englund -- but since Evergrey hasn't put out a good album in close to 15 years, I'll take it!

Yes.
Flotsam and Jetsam are one of those bands I've known by name for ages but not actually ever listened to. But just today I happened across their new self-titled album and am liking it. The video single I stumbled upon made me expect more straightforward thrash metal but that's not the whole story with this album at all. Liking the punchy production with actually audible bass guitar, too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI8rWo2osaU

There's also a song called Iron Maiden and it turned out to not actually be a Maiden cover, but is still a pretty strong nod towards them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ77YEzem_I

Still gonna need a few listens to see whether this album will grow on me or remain a passing fancy, but there's certainly potential here.
