All the pizza chains in the UK are outrageously priced. If you can't get a 2 for 1 coupon or something, it's never even close to worth it; even with the coupon it's questionable.

Yeah it's crazy expensive for what it is for some reason. I've never understood how they survive really. I guarantee you they are not seen as 'fancy' though.

could be different by region I guess but man get the gently caress out of wherever those are 'fancy'

Right? Like why the hell would you go to Dominos in Scotland? I would be trying to find the most monstrous sausage- or mutton-related thing I could get my hands on.

It might not be fancy but it is loving expensive. Same for Pizza Hut. Papa Johns is a recent thing over here (at least in Nottingham) and is legitimately seen as fancy. Anyone with sense is ordering pizzas on special offers from their local places.

Yes. If you get a burrito bowl, it is an extremely open-faced sandwich.

By this logic, ergo, pizza is a sandwich. An open-faced burrito is also a pizza, and vice versa.

I can't believe this is something that actually occurred, but a judge ruled that a burrito is legally not a sandwich.

Long story short, a Panera tried to sue to keep a Qdoba from opening in the same plaza, citing a non-compete clause in their lease banning any other sandwich shops. Culinary experts were brought in, and the judge decided that a sandwich legally requires two pieces of bread with the filling between them. Anything made with a single tortilla wrapped around filling (like burritos, tacos, and quesadillas) is not a sandwich.

So....sandwich rules?

Pizza is still an open faced sandwich.

Doesn't this make hot dogs not a sandwich? Hot dog buns are a single piece of bread! My world is falling apart!

Also I make my quesadillas with two tortillas, one on top, one on the bottom. My quesadillas are a sandwich.

Most bread is single pieces sliced into sections. Hotdogs are a piece of bread, sliced down the middle but not quite all the way. Still a sandwich.

Pizza is not a sandwich though but calzones might be.

If you make a quesadilla with two tortillas (top and bottom), I think it's legally a sandwich. Also, I think hot dogs are a sandwich. Wikipedia lists them as a sandwich and it's assumed that hoagies/subs like cheesesteaks are grandfathered in despite existing with bread that's not fully sliced in half. A hot dog is basically a tiny sausage hoagie.

So you could open a shop that sold open-faced sandwiches and that would be fine because those sandwiches are not sandwiches. I think we can safely ignore this ruling as it's clearly insane.
