Haven't heard that one but it is the game filled with worthless trap skills and certain content being cut off if you don't have the right abilities.

I enjoy it but it has all the bullshit that 'old school' games that people seemed to have forgotten about. It's a hard game to recommend without a bunch of qualifiers.

Didn't the Director's Cut alleviate a lot of the problems? Good thing that's the only version they sell now. I only spent 10 hours with the original and won't play the Director's Cut until I have enough time for it.

Personally, I'm planning on waiting for the steam sale. My theory is that any discounts between now and then are an attempt to generate additional revenue by getting sales at a higher price than they plan on offering during the summer sale. From a business perspective there's very little reason not to offer a smaller discount now. Most people who were going to buy it at full price have. Any sales they drive now with a partial discount is pure profit on the difference between a partial discount and whatever is planned for the steam sale. This is all guesswork though.

I've been sperging over Steam sales for years and this basically doesn't happen. What you actually have right before a big Steam sale is that sales dry up - we're definitely going to see a Left 4 Dead franchise sale on the weekend/midweek before the Summer sale, it's like a tradition at this point. The XCOM2 and Watch_Dog sales are probably to attract attention to those titles in particular. Watch_Dogs 2 was announced, after all, and the last XCOM2 DLC is out soon. Ubi's sale strategy in general appears to be to stick out from the crowd, i.e. last winter they delayed sales on the AC and Far Cry franchises until it was "their turn" instead of discounting them right on day one.

Now, it's entirely possible they are experimenting with new approaches. But 33% on a game as new as XCOM2 is probably as good as it gets this summer, and if you're not hurting for money, the difference between a 33% sale and a potential 40% sale is not huge anyway.

You've got a party of like 6 people, max out one utility and one weapon skill on each and you're set, as long as you don't have everyone using the same type of weapon you shouldn't really have issued with ammo.

Note: I haven't played since it was released and haven't kept up with patch notes and the directors cut.

I think I'm coming off as harsher than I intend. Nothing in the game can't be overcome or planned around. It's just one of those games you get 20 hours in and think 'drat I really gimped my party' and start over with better planning. This is fun for me and alot of people, but it's something most people wouldn't expect picking up a game anymore.

So I spent the better part of the night playing Duskers, which just recently left early access. This is a really neat game, although if you're one of those people who hates roguelike random poo poo loving you over, you might want to skip it. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but this Giant Bomb quick look does a good job of showing precisely what it's like. It strikes that same nerve as Deadnauts (same setup, exploring a bunch of derelict ships where mysterious bad poo poo went down and the bad poo poo is still there trying to kill you), but it's not nearly as frustrating and the UI is not actively trying to kill you.

I know that this might seem very vague, but I'm not concerned with spanning a bunch of genres. I'm looking for a list of games with daily challenges, and Google isn't helping me out in this case. I have The Binding of Isaac, Spelunky, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Nuclear Throne, and Enter the Gungeon. Are there any other games with dailys that I'm missing? I even play the daily date in Hexcells Infinite and look up new daily puzzles on Paint it Black, so it really doesn't have to be roguelikes.

Daily Quests are just "do this", daily challenges are seeded randomly generated levels that is standardised online as that day's challenge and there are leaderboards for them.

The best challenge out there is the Hitman Elusive Target, but it's not daily. They come out every now and again and barely tell you anything about where the target will be.

6. Cities in Motion
7. AdvertCity
8. Anno 2070
9. Big Pharma
10. Tropico Reloaded

11. The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom

There's funny sort of gap between RTSes and city builders. Games like Age of Empires charge you with building a settlement for the express purpose of churning out an army to play with, whereas SimCity or Tropico have you building metropolises for peaceful purposes. Settlers fits neatly into this gap as a game that lets you build a sprawling, thriving kingdom that happens to produce conquest alongside quality goods. It's a weird mix of strategy and simulation that takes some of the best of both worlds.

If you've played an Anno game, the production-based gameplay of Settlers will seem immediately familiar. Within your kingdom you build farms and lodges and residences in appropriate areas, then expand them with workyards to produce or refine a wide range of goods. These goods are used by other workyards to produce more complex goods, consumed to build structures or raise armies, or traded away for coins and other services. Location and ease of access is of utmost importance to your production chains, all connected by a network of storehouses and runners. One key difference from Anno is that you actually have several different options for producing the same goods. Food can be farmed or fished, coal can be mined or coked, wood can be chopped or cultivated, and so on. There are even extensive trade routes to bring in hard-to-come-by goods for the right prices.

Once you've fostered a humming economy, the conquest can begin. Your goods can purchase soldiers that will conquer neighboring regions for you, expanding your reach and resource options. Combat takes virtually no input from the player, simulating battles as simple comparisons of numbers but animating them as eventful engagements between your cartoony troops. You need only tell your generals where to go and ensure they have enough men to get it done. Military conquest isn't your only option either, as you can send priests to convert territory or traders to bribe officials, depending on the strengths of your economy. There are also two whole upgrade systems that support both your production and military that I won't go into, but rest assured they provide even more options for expanding and optimizing your kingdom.

The ultimate goal of most maps, whether they be campaign missions or random skirmishes, is to reach the Victory Point goal before your opponent. This can mean amassing the most money, controlling the most territory, having the most settlers, fielding the biggest army, or fulfilling map-specific goals like aiding NPCs or holding special regions. With target totals of 5 or 6 points and nearly a dozen ways to earn them, each battle is wide open in how you approach it. I've won maps with literally no armies and zero direct conflict with my opponents, instead opting for cash-heavy production chains that let me buy my way to victory peacefully.

The campaign in Settlers follows Princess Zoe in her quest to conquer and unite the fractured kingdom of Tandria. Early missions train you in the many aspects of designing production chains and building an economy, with carefully-scripted events and scenes. The campaign soon turns you loose to pursue victory through avenues of your choosing once all the basics have been practiced. There's a Skirmish mode for random matches, a second campaign for more experienced players, and multiplayer modes that probably see very little use these days. On top of that there's a map editor for making your own matches and a castle editor that lets you create your very own home base using a robust snap-to editor and a huge amount of pieces.

Settlers is presented in a bright, slightly-exaggerated style similar to the Warcraft games, with big thatched-roof barns and speeding minecarts and bustling breweries. The characters are heavily detailed and stylized, looking almost like they popped right from a feature film. Along with the charming soundtrack, Settlers revels in its artistry and presents you with landscapes and cities that could rival any builder game in beauty. There's a lot of content here, a lot of ways to explore it, and a lot to love about it. Fans of city builders and RTSes alike should take note, because you don't often see quality like this among either.
