So just for perspective, a big reason we are getting what looks like a loving amazing game is when the Zelda team brought in newer, younger devs to help them construct a true open world, suddenly all the traditions and "well this is just what we do" started getting examined and the old guard was more then happy to toss something out if it didn't fit?

Now that they have this open world engine and everything I'm desperately hoping there's a Major's Mask-esque sequel planned to come in before 2020.

I love the coverage for this game. We've seen an amazing amount of cool things you can do, yet know nothing of the story at all really. I am super hyped for the game, but at the same time I don't want to hear a thing about the story. I want to go into this completely unspoiled.

Also, they got me to buy Twilight Princess HD. I already beat the original twice. I didn't think I'd be doing it a third time. Gotta have wolf Link running around with me.

I replayed Skyward Sword very recently and actually loved it (while simultaneously cursing some of the stupid design decisions). The shields were really well implemented and fun to use, for the first time in a Zelda game, and there were tons of other cool and fun details.

If the areas weren't so sequestered and the game wasn't insanely linear with intermittent fetch quests/minigames/escorts, people would remember it a lot better for its strengths.

Actually I think having just played it and seeing and remembering the detail that went into the game makes me MORE excited for Breath of the Wild than if I hadn't played it.

By far the biggest thing that worries me about the game is the fighting. Wind Waker's swordfighting was just so drat fun and simple and easy that this physics-based stuff worries me.

Here's this big awesome skyworld for you to explore!

There's only like 3 islands with people on them.
But maybe there's more inside that spooky cloud!

Nope, just some treasure chests and bugs.

I'm really not sure how I feel about this game so far. I loved Twilight Princess and hated a lot of things in Skyward Sword. Right now I can't help getting the sick feeling that these new developers might be loving with the parts of Zelda that I like.

I'm not sold on the art direction either, but I was never a fan of the cartoon aesthetic in a Zelda game.

Disposable items already doesn't sound encouraging. That really annoyed me in Skyward Sword.

It doesn't look like there will be a problem of being in short supply, it seems more like the mechanic only exists to encourage/force combat diversity within the ample supply of weapons scattered about. I love having a variety of options in my games so this is all good news to me; Its a big part of why Majoras Mask is my favorite Zelda.

E: yes, as in "good" V

They've already said you get much more "robust" items later on in the game, there's no way there isn't a unbreakable sword and shield; either its got decent defense but rare breakable shields are better for certain things or you basically scour the overworld and find the parts to forge the item.

Things like the breakable fire rod, bows, etc. just mean there's a new level of complexity to combat. We're going to see 2-handed swords again and I'm pretty sure everyone loving loved the Biggoron's sword from OOT more then the master sword. There's almost certainly going to be "masterwork" items that break but can be repaired at a shop or something.

Everything in the demo and revealed so far is just the first few hours of what looks like a 100+ hours game if you go deep and explore everything. Cities, towns, villages, other races, etc. we still have no idea about except that they exist.

Given how weapons do the blue light explosion when they break the Sheikah slate probably upgrades to where it can summon a sword/shield/bow for general use.

Super Mario Maker's pretty much a nail in the coffin for new 2D mario games, for a while at least, so the next one being another 3D open-world iteration is a half-decent bet.

I just want another 3D Mario game like 64, Sunshine and the first Galaxy :sigh:.

Not really. SMM still has its limits, and fanmade courses tend to trend towards being weird, funny, gimmicky, or hard rather than providing a well-designed, cohesive experience like a full-on Mario does. Might spur them to come up with a new aesthetic though.

Will there be full on zelda style dungeons in this? Skyrim sword is great and all with the open world and a hundred mini future-past techno challenge trial dungeons, but everyone remembers the dungeons in a zelda game, have they said if they will have the same giant, sprawling dungeons with a boss at the end?

This sounds like a terrible idea to me, because it means throwing the game's core mechanics out the window. I hope that at the very least it's not the most powerful weapon in the game, since that would discourage the player from ever switching out.

My best guess, to fit the technology theme of the game, is that you'll get electric weapons like the bow in the original trailer that are more powerful and don't break. However, they still degrade, and once they "power down" you have to wait for them to recharge, or maybe stop by a town or something. That way there's still an incentive to keep a steady supply of weapons and steal them from enemies.

I thought about why I didn't remember this at all, and I think it's because in SS, your shield is actually useless unless you shield bash with correct timing. So I didn't remember it as a separate "parrying" action, only as that's how you guard in that game.

It's absolutely going to be optional. Given the whole "ignore story" aspect of the game you could probably grab the chipped up sword and just use it as is with it having the same power as a basic club.
