I always wondered that as a kid, and I thought it seemed like a really cool idea. If you're going to be a super hero you might as well make some cash by selling your likeness to video games and TV shows right? Unfortunately I don't think it was ever brought up, at least not in the English dub.

There are also Sailor Moon dolls floating around background shots later in the anime. I'm guessing Japanese toy manufactures just really wanted to sell some stuff based off of the mysterious superheros they have.

Maybe Wayne takes care of that? And Matt Murdock has been known to take on cases for super heroes who can't or won't reveal their public identity.

So I loaded up my old save file and I completely forgot about the actually somewhat cool thing the game does with the final boss. I don't think I've ever seen it in any other game. I'm mostly posting this so that I remember to talk about it when the time comes, unless Scoob already plans on it.

On the topic Haruka calling Usagi dumpling head/odango/whatever, the German dub went with "Mondgesicht", literally translating as "moon face" and meaning something like "having a round/chubby face". Doesn't make a whole ton of sense with Takeuchi's rail-thin characters but at least we got a moon joke in.kefkafloyd posted:I've wondered the same thing. If you view Earth and the Moon as being tied together, and I believe that some recent analysis has shown that the moon was originally part of Earth, having Minako be so similar makes a certain amount of sense since there are a lot of similarities between the two.

And then there was the time when most of the Judaic population was uprooted and shipped off to Babylon. Until Cyrus later conquered it and let them go back home. Early Judaic people had a pretty up close and personal exposure to the Babylonian religion. Which is probably one of the reasons that Judaism incorporated as much Babylonian stuff as it did, even through the dawn of Christianity.

Oh so you did want that essay. I'm kidding. Now that I'm not posting-while-sleepy, I feel confident saying that the Judaic connection fails Occam's Razor. The Babylonians liked affiliating planets with their gods, too, and the result is totally what you expect. Nabu = Mercury Nergal = Mars Ishtar = Venus Marduk = Jupiter. So they probably just pulled up some some encyclopedia entry on each planet and flipped to the mythology part, picking the first pantheon that wasn't Greek/Roman. The characteristics match up like they do because Mesopotamian culture has a shadow that stretches for millennia. Mercury is the only one that doesn't line up so it's probably just a coincidence that Sailor Mercury is a bookish nerd and her evil counterpart is named for a god of writing.

Sailor Moon might being drowning in filler, but it's stupidly entertaining filler dammit.
