Painkiller Hell and Damnation (HD) is a good remake of a bunch of the first (?) game's levels in a loose narrative. It looks great and plays great, but I haven't played much of the others to compare. Painkiller Gold is also great, like poptart said.

List everything you need to, then pop on a video to watch while you tap the lower right corner of your phone where the confirmation button is, it will continue to error out but will confirm the listing anyways (typical valve) and will list everything within a few minutes if there's like a hundred confirmations without needing to even look at the screen. It sucks but is a lot less bad than I thought. extra stout posted:I can almost relate to horrible idiot kids who look at every game not on an ipad as being unlearnable because I have been playing video games since Quake II and loved Warcraft II but basically go five years before this and here is Master of Magic, a game I just bought and 100 percent will never get used to the controls of or learn how to make it even feel playable Generally, keeping an eye on what rank yours and enemy troops are is important. Killing higher ranked troops(elite, ultra elite etc) at range before meleeing lower ranked ones(regular, veteran) is a good strategy, though almost all ranged troops melt vs melee troops. Honestly just make a large land mass tutorial-difficulty world and futz around with stuff to learn the mechanics, it is a LITTLE complex but nowhere near some more recent 4x games, and I think it's better for it. A good tip is to pop up the tax rate early on to 20%, you can generally keep unrest down from that using shrines and such. SadisTech posted:I did the GMG 0.20 deal + the 5-pack. The theme and setting are cool, the world is fun to explore, and it's very impressively huge for how tiny the team who made it is (it's like... two people? and you cover a lot of ground - see Axiom Verge for another such game). The wheels start to come off in the last bit of the game, with some really loving annoying platforming and not-so-great area design, but everything up to that point is pretty cool, so it doesn't spoil the whole experience. It wears its Souls influences on its sleeve, but really it just boils down to 'a metroidvania game where enemies or bosses are actually capable of killing you', the rest of the gameplay is pretty standard for the genre.

Yeah, Axiom verge I've played; felt more metroid than -vania, in that the secrets were a bit harder to uncover, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The metroidvania pack and Aquaria will keep me plenty busy I think. What's nice is apparently for the metroidvania pack, if you already own one of them, it subtracts it from the bundle entirely so you don't double-purchase? Neat.

When a big sale is going on like this, is it normal for something you buy to not be immediately available? I picked up some Marvel Heroes DLC and it didn't show up in the game for an hour, then it shut down for a server update. I got instant confirmation of the purchase and it shows in the library DLC list, at least.

Then you should buy the Witness, because it has straight up the best, most elegant puzzle design I've seen in a game since, well, Braid. I think it's the new gold standard. One important word of advice, though: it is really, really important to go into The Witness completely blind. No game in recorded history has ever been so easy to completely ruin your experience of via spoilers or advance knowledge than The Witness. But yeah, it's worth $32.

victrix posted:Arcen Game's last smash failure I REALLY like Starward Rogue and I maintain that of all of Arcen's games, this is one of the least deserving of failure. It's also not great that a lot of people are going to get their first impression of Arcen through all these mystery bundle copies of Shattered Haven now. ANYWAY. If you have somehow dodged the Tropico series until now, this one is a fine place to start for the barely noticeable entry fee of $2.49. 1. Banished 2. StarTopia 3. Imperium Romanum Gold Edition 4. Port Royale 2 5. 1849 6. Cities in Motion 7. AdvertCity 8. Anno 2070 9. Big Pharma 10. Tropico Reloaded 11. The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom 12. SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition 13. Knights and Merchants 14. Patrician III 15. Stronghold HD 16. Children of the Nile 17. Anno 1404 / Dawn of Discovery 18. Cultures - Northland 19. Majesty Gold HD 20. Cities in Motion 2 21. Stronghold Crusader HD 22. Grand Ages: Rome 23. Triple Town 24. Tropico 3 I wasn't really a Tropico fan until this one. The original Tropico had a lot of good ideas in its individual citizens and its banana republic politics, but it was held back by technical limitations and short-sighted designs. After an odd detour with Tropico 2, the developers returned to the original concept and polished it up in a brand-new 3D engine, and the results speak for themselves. Tropico 3 places you into the spit-shined spats of a Carribbean dictator, charged with helping his hapless little island flourish. Each individual citizen is modeled with needs, jobs, opinions, and motivations, so the key to success is keeping enough of them happy (or suppressed) to achieve your own agenda. This is mostly done by building homes and services they want, and making sure they have enough money to enjoy them. You'll be building churches, clinics, restaurants, casinos, and more, in addition to the farms and factories needed to fund them. The big stumbling block of the first Tropico was that your little Tropicans couldn't be trusted to actually get poo poo done when it needed to be done. That's not a problem here, as your citizens spend far more of their time on their tasks and only go astray if their needs are very conspicuously not being met. And as it turns out, when your island is running like it should, the money just pours in. Even the most basic exports like excess food or meat will earn you everything you need to outfit your island. And once you get more complex industries up and running, money will never be an issue again. As a result, Tropico 3 is way, way easier than its predecessors and a lot of its contemporaries, but this is by no means a bad thing. Economic prosperity allows you a lot more freedom to build your island the way you want, with all the services and luxuries you can stuff into your borders. You'll need them too, because your citizens are noticeably pickier than in previous games and won't hesitate to turn to armed rebellion. Some scenarios lean heavier on this aspect but managing the different factions and quelling uprisings are a larger part of the game, as they should be. One very welcome feature added for this outing is the opportunity to customize your dictator. Tropico 1 let you choose his or her traits but 3 lets you give them backstories, change their outfits, and then watch them walk around and interact with the people. You can actually use your little avatar to inspire workers to work harder or give rousing speeches to the commoners. The traits also seem much more powerful this time around, and honestly work as a sort of difficulty system. Taking traits that help with scenario goals can make a huge difference, but you can also choose flaws that add a greater challenge. In the end, Tropico 3 is the game the first one should have been. The core mechanics are not very far removed; most of the buildings and edicts are the same, and the politics are virtually unchanged. But everything works the way it's supposed to, is balanced to not be so frustrating, and is presented in some charming, picturesque 3D. There's no reason to go any further back in the series than this, so if you've ever wanted to lord over your own tropical island, start here.

Axiom Verge is an outstanding game and 12 dollars is a steal for it, so at the very least grab that. AV is not really a metroidvania since it's pretty much just Metroid II: Return Of Samus in its design and layout but with a lot of new toys to play with that weren't possible on a Game Boy. The graphics are deceptively high quality, in that some of the effects I doubt could be pulled off on a Playstation 2, pretty impressive for something that's decently aping the NES aesthetic. The soundtrack is also outstanding and very "alien", perfect for a Gigeresque Metroid game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJwmaWHfSCk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uZMH3NINYI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz8NHJxQT4I It's kinda staggering that it was all done by one dude, graphics, coding, music, everything. More importantly, it puts the DLCs into the actual game, as opposed to the regular edition, which has you complete the first couple missions and then makes you sit through about five minutes of "CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE UNLOCKED THE _________" before you can continue playing. Makes for a much smoother experience, textures are a little nicer, stuff like that. The only downside is there's no cloud sync for saves, so deleting the game loses all your progress.
