I remember playing Everquest back in the late 90s and getting lost in a kobold dungeon and losing my corpse so gently caress kobolds.

The dragon hook makes them way better than other goblin-knockoffs. It just bums me out that it came out of nowhere. I'm usually the first person to condemn goblin variants but I like dragons much more as longer manipulators than surrounded by a coterie of puppers.

I like that as a result of the dog-men/dragon-men split, Western Fantasy Kobolds and Eastern Fantasy Kobolds have had a divergent evolution. Also two things from the Day of the Tentacle episode: Weird Ed is totally doing a Boris Karloff voice and it has been a really long time since I've read anything by Dave Barry, but I don't remember him relying nearly as much on literalized puns as was implied, but it''s possible I'm just misremembering.

When you revisit Giant Bomb content with Ryan it's immediately obvious how unique he was. He was funny, but he also gave every single video a sense of direction. He kept poo poo moving, prompted funny exchanges, and ribbed his co-hosts in a way that was dickish but good-natured so they played along and stayed on their toes. Seemed like a good guy, on top of all that.

Invictus thanks again for that final Hat Baron email we read this week. It ended up being ridiculously timely given all the insane CS Economy stuff coming out right now. I can barely believe the degree of hosed updedness with all that gun gambling casino/streamer stuff.

Great show Bob. Was looking forward to when you all would get around to covering Earthbound. I'm one of those "new listeners" that started listening since you guys restarted independently so all of these subjects are new to me. Now for a confession- I have trouble playing Earthbound. I have it on both WiiU (before selling the system last month) and N3DS and while I love the setting, dialogue, characters, music, basically everything.....I just can't get much into the "game" aspect. Perhaps it's because I'm just not a traditional RPG player, but it's tough for whatever reason. Anyways, I'm at Threed thus far and for posterity will continue to soldier on every now and then. It's the weirdest thing to love everything about a game and at the same time find it a bit of a slog.

The difficulty curve on the game is all over the map, mostly by design, though. If you're not playing with the PDF of the guide that was packed in with the game, you should track that down. Especially for a "puzzle" coming up in the next point of interest.

I play in little spurts every couple of weeks as well so I forget what I'm doing!

It adds so much flavor text (and cool artwork) above what you get in the game. It's more than okay to read it over while playing, especially if it's your first play though and even more especially if you're not into the genre. What it adds more than makes up for any sort of

I think the biggest difficulty spike comes when you hit the Peaceful Rest Valley, since you're dealing with more difficult enemies who can inflict status effects, and you only have Ness with a limited inventory and no status-healing magic. I think there are a few minor spikes after that (like when you revisit the alien-infested Onett) but as with any RPG you can always level-grind your way to success. Also, Jeff's Multi-Bottle Rockets are pretty much the easiest way to kill any boss in a few turns. They're so overpowered I never use them for the sake of making boss fights way more interesting.

Definitely, and it plays into the thematic message of "everything is easier with friends!" When you lose Paula in the department store, it's a adjacent difficulty move (not a spike) because most of your battle verbs are now gone, but it's not particularly bad; you'd just much rather have Paula in your party. I'd consider Magicant to be the second biggest spike because some of those battles can be real touch-and-go, but yeah, the difficulty curve going into Peaceful Rest Valley looks like a skateboard quarter pipe.

I'm slowly working through the WoFF on the Fallout New Vegas DLC as I play through it. I've beaten and listened to the sections on Honest Hearts and Dead Money and I just wanted to make a few comments: Kole, if you haven't done so already I'd suggest going to a wikia and reading the notes on The Father and The Sorrows because they're some of the most affecting backstory in FO3, FO4, and FONV. The one log about the Vault 22 refugees and the captured people followed by "They ate them." is chilling. And a minor correction, the people The Father watches over aren't the scouts from the bus crash, they're a group that escaped from some place called The School which is controlled by someone called The Principal and their ancestors become the Sorrows, named because The Father came down from the caves as he reached the end of his life and told them to stay innocent and be kind to each other to forget "the sorrows of the past." It's great and I love it and things like this are what drive me to spend a hundred hours exploring and learning about this world. Old World Blues is up next, I can't wait to get started.

The event tees this year aren't very good barring TASBOT, if you want a good event tee from SGDQ you should grab the Metroidvania one from a couple events ago. I am actually wearing one RIGHT NOW!!! and it rules
