My Bekant is pretty sturdy, I've got my case sitting on it and a monitor arm attached to it and there's no wobble, though I did hammer those plastic bolts into the inserts something fierce. Maybe use a screwdriver to pry them out and try again? It's coming from the legs because using a single allen key screw is a really dumb design. I don't quite understand the point of the pins either. Really disappointed in this.

Actually IKEA sneakily released the Thyge, which is basically a Galant A Leg in white, just what I wanted. It comes in only that one version, but it's still a lot more modular than the stupid arse round-edged Bekant. I compared the strucutre with my Galant, and it seems they saved a bit of metal on the Thyge, but it's still rated for 150 kg. I was very happy when I spotted it and even happier when all the specs were the same as the Galant. My local IKEA is also selling Galant tabletops for 15 € but when I spotted that I didn't have a big enough car with me.

Still rocking an old OG jerker here. It's getting kinda cramped with two monitors, one 27 incher and another 19 inch one vertical. Should I just build my next desk from a modular IKEA kit or get an ultrawide? I do love this desk, but having two 27 inchers would be pretty sweet.

Get yourself a butcher block from ikea and some drawers to use as legs. Can't remember the exact model of the desk but I can comfortably fit a 34" and a 27" with room to spare. Edit: I'll take a picture of my setup when I get home. Etrips fucked around with this message at 14:13 on Sep 12, 2016 |

I just received my autonomous smartdesk. I got the dark walnut too and it looks great. Not super wobbily like my Jarvis was at height. The single motor isn't super quiet and definitely slower than the Jarvis. The overall build quality seems fine, but the pre drilled holes didn't all line up as well as I would have liked. For the price, it's totally worth it. Just know that their customer service is abysmal.

I had a L5-S1 herniated disc and have been an old man since 17. My spine specialist / surgeon recommended a stool and sitting on the edge instead of some fancy "ergonomic" chair even for the 10+ hours I sit. I used to re-injure my back every other year with different chairs and even tried a stupid ball (too easy to slouch on those) but haven't had a problem since I switched to a stool. I also move house frequently and it's so much easier to throw a stool in a truck than dealing with some $1000+ monstrosity. Additionally, I don't have to worry about a cat stealing my chair anymore.

The thing is that that's the recommendation he has for everyone, not just people that have back problems. He uses a stool at home himself. It's not some special stool either - a whole $50 from Office Depot or Overstock. Only better chair in terms of improving spinal stability would be none at all or one that forces me to go do some deadlifts.

It was miserable. Maybe it would have been better on wheels that allowed me to adjust my position more easily. Or maybe I just don't have enough core strength. When it comes to chairs if you're fatigued after a couple hours you're well past the point you should have gotten up to stretch a bit anyway. The question is whether after a day of repeat stretches that your back feels terrible. Neil Peart can probably sit for 8 hours straight playing without feeling any fatigue, man up  or maybe goon up

I'm going to pull the trigger on this desk as well. I'm buying black on black 70x30 with dual motors. The accessory kits seem silly, I don't think I'm going to get them. I'm also considering buying one of those 34" ultrawide all-in-one computers and mounting it on this: Loctek Full Motion Gas Spring Single LCD Arm Stand Mount Fits 17"-34". I'm sure I can get a comparable or better system with a seperate 34" ultrawide for cheaper than those all-in-ones, but I'm pretty tempted to just buy it because I don't want to deal with anything. I'm also not sure if I want a dual monitor setup with the ultrawide, I might try to mount a smaller monitor in portrait orientation next to it. Looks like it takes at least one or two month to ship the desk I want, I'll post pictures and a review when I get it.

 My IKEA butcher block take, stained with tung oil. Looking to build a desktop soon but don't want to ruin my minimalist aesthetic with a giant tower sitting somewhere.  After living here for a year now I think I've finally settled on a setup, more or less. I think I'm gonna get some floating shelves for all the nerd poo poo on top of my tower, and I'm looking into getting a 2.1 speaker setup, but for the most part this is kinda ideal for me. The only big drawback is that my old Ikea desk was thicker, and I had a monitor mount clamped to it. I was reading that some people just throw a block of wood into the clamp to make it work, is this a dumb idea? I feel like that would lack some required support.

Had to upgrade from the 10 yr old IKEA Jerker for the CNC lathe... Wire hung some shelving to some free steel angle I scored. Angle's got a bunch of lag screws into the stud. Main shelf's hung via 12 wires, the upper junk shelf and bookshelves each have 8 pts of support. Monitors are hung and and swivel away to work with...  Big ol' CNC lathe. It's sitting on one of those 50s-era steelcase desks that I scored from a junk outlet. Lathe is 8" swing, I replaced the motor w/ a 3-phase 240V that could be computer controlled, steppers, a newish ballscrew x-axis from ebay, a z-axis ballscrew from ebay, new chuck, sensors, quick change tool post, buncha poo poo. Conversion took about 3/4 a year. It's a fun toy.
