So was last year's Astros team unlucky in terms of record or did this year's team overachieve?

Worry about the next game after you win the current game.

Considering how awful Houston was at the beginning of the season, it's a credit to them that they still almost snuck into the playoffs

So going into the final weekend you have these three teams fighting for two playoff spots: - A team that has lost 3 starters to season ending injuries and one of the only starters left is 43 and working through an ankle injury - A team with a sub-.400 record since the All-Star Break - A team currently 8 games under .500 at home needing to win their last 3 home games to try and catch the above 2 teams CubsWoo fucked around with this message at 13:55 on Sep 30, 2016 |

I thought Gomez would be a really good fit in Houston but welp. Sucks because he should be due for a huge payday this off season, I wonder how that will go. I can totally see the Yankees paying way more than anyone else is willing to risk on him and he turns it around big time next season.

Mets have announced that Gsellman/Colon/Syndergaard will start the series against the Phillies, with Colon then lined up to start the WC game on 3 days' rest and Syndergaard starting game 1 of the DS, though I expect if we clinch WC1 before Sunday Syndergaard will get pushed back so he's starting the WC game.

Carlos Gomez has had what, two good years (his age 27 and 28 seasons) in the decade he's been in the big leagues?

Hell, I've gotten to the point I want him to be the everyday shortstop and slide Correa over to third but I know that probably won't happen Gurriel didn't play baseball at all until the Astros brought him in, is that right? So optimistically he could be better with ST and playing a whole season. But yeah he's been below replacement level for awhile now I have literally zero expectations for Tyler White long term

Yeah I was just looking at that the other day, he's something like a .728 OPS career. As much as I enjoy Gomez I don't know if teams are willing to sign him to a big deal considering he is over 30 and regressed badly this year.

Playoffs are just around the corner and if he throws well there the Cubs will in turn throw money at him.

There's no way they pay him that to pitch until he's 38.

He was mad Montero got pulled and then he proceeded to give up three runs in the 5th, but that's still ignoring that he'd given up four runs in the previous four so it's not like he was on some kind of roll.
