Looks like those Netflix rumors were true. Black Mirror season 3 is a Netflix show, and it's 12 episodes.

The Socialist Workers Party's newspaper proved to be a tough sell to downtown businessmen.
I hope that it maintains the unconnected episodes format and doesn't try to stretch one weird tale on for all 12.

Holy poo poo, the UK is producing 12 episodes of television? In a single year? They must have had to put like the entire country on this project.

It sounds like this is primarily a Netflix thing. The info on the new season apparently doesn't have any info about how this will be available in the UK, and this article says that Netflix UK and Channel 4 are trying to work out how it's actually going to air in the UK.

If I were in charge I'd find a boring bank holiday and dedicate Channel 4 entirely to Black Mirror for that day.

I don't know how this is going to work because whoever airs second is going to get screwed.

Show it on both at once. Netflix can be happy because UK subscribers are a minority of their income, C4 can be happy because most of their viewers aren't Netflix subscribers, and UK Netflix subscribers can be happy because they won't have to fight with C4's ondemand service.

Man, I was hoping C4 wouldn't be involved at all. They've been pretty awful these last couple of years in terms of online viewing. If I can't actually watch it on Netflix on its air date I wont be happy.

They don't even have the first two series' on there at the moment.

They did until recently. I can remember seeing a bunch of C4 stuff on there a month or two back but it seems to be all gone now.

Well, I guess they couldn't work it out. Netfllix only.

Also episodes and cast etc revealed, I'm sure someone will paste it in here at some point.

seems somewhat silly to make a new thread 1. months from the episodes actually airing and 2. right after this one had already been bumped

I keep meaning to post more about the episodes I saw but forgetting. I'll try and find the time later. I saw the episodes Nosedive, San Junipero, and Shut Up and Dance, in that order. The first ep is the Schur/Jones scripted one and is more overtly funny - kinda feels like if the show had actually had an American remake, but a good one. Second is very different in tone from any other BM episode while third is very much in the style from the past two seasons. I think the third was my favourite - Jerome Flynn is hilarious in it.

I only saw San Junipero and Nosedive at TIFF this year but I think SJ very much has a Black Mirror look/feel (though it takes some time to get going) where Nosedive could almost have been from a different show entirely.

I made it halfway through episode 2 before turning this off. I dunno, I mostly don't mind engaging with incredibly depressing media. This show just makes me feel awful though. Does this change at all or is it just not the show for me?

This show is probably not for you. Some episodes are lighter or more playful with whatever the concept is, but generally there is someone experiencing something soul-crushing in every episode. I would consider the very first episode one of the less depressing ones if that tells you anything.

It's always horrible. The stories are good and there are lovely moments in some episodes, but they all end either on a horrible twist or just the gut wrenchingly unpleasant logical conclusion of the narrative. They are absolutely morality plays though, there's almost always scope to reflect on what human behaviours are responsible for the tragedy.

There's only one episode that feels "the world is irredeemably poo poo and we are powerless to change it" to me but even that's a result of the setting, the allegories for the real world are obvious and those conditions could be changed.

just fwiw, flashy_mcflash, this is why i feel SJ doesn't really feel like Black Mirror. I have a lot of thoughts on the ending, but I'll save them until the episode's been out a few days.

I think I can dig what you're getting at. The premise is pretty obvious once you hit around the halfway point and there's no big 'surprise' there, but the last couple of scenes where they show the server facility while a hilariously on-the-nose 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' played screamed 'baby's first Black Mirror' to me. I think watching that one and Nosedive together made me think they were trying to rope more people into the Black Mirror concept without going full White Bear/White Christmas' right off the bat. Probably not a terrible strategy since I'm sure we all know people (including a few of the recent posters in this thread) who NOPE'd it after the first couple episodes of the original season and they don't want to alienate a ton of people in their first foray onto Netflix. I think just about anyone could handle Nosedive and SJ but I hope there's some darker stuff to come (Brooker explicitly said there was some heavy poo poo to come in the screening I attended).

I've been pretty happy lately, I might rewatch White Christmas to make sure my soul is appropriately bruised and battered for this next season.

It's a Netflix joint now right, so that means all of s3 all at once on Netflix? No airing first in the UK or anything?
