Charles Get-Out posted:Is Star Citizen going to have anything to actually do on 99.99999% of the proposed planetary space available? I don't think you can expect actual gameplay in most of that landmass and that begs the question of why it's even there in the first place imo. if it gets made, it's going to have mostly the same problems as elite: dangerous and no man's sky and every other open world space sim in order to remedy this, steps have been taken so that the game is never made

Beer4TheBeerGod posted:One of the most common conceptions of the Dune Worm is that it's a single biological entity. A discerning analysis of its digestive system, however, will show a series of independently rotating concentric biological constructs. Each of these constructs is actually an independent parasitic entity living in a symbiotic relationship with the host worm. As the young worm matures it inevitably picks up larval forms of the mouth parasite which secure themselves in the oral cavity by constantly pressing against the oral cavity; in essence the parasite spends the rest of its life attempting to avoid being swallowed by the worm. Over time the parasite and worm grow larger, and smaller parasites may find themselves trapped inside the "mouth" of a larger one. The fight continues, with each concentric ring of teeth representing another parasite, each one attempting to avoid being swallowed by the one surrounding it. Within the body of the worm is a complex arrangement of concentric digestive systems, with each parasite consuming the remnants of those inside it as well as whatever bits of food make it between each ring. The host worm is left with whatever undigested matter is left. The end result is mutually beneficial. Each of the concentric parasites serves as a "pre-stomach" for the parasite surrounding it, and the host body provides protection for all of its passengers while not having to do any digestion on its own. Shut up, Brian Herbert!

ripptide posted:Takes a while for light to catch up to you. But that's the thing, it's a reflection *from the second planet*. What it looks like, is as if they unloaded the map with the first planet, loaded the second one, with the pixel shaders for the second map already loaded while the "load screen" warp is playing. Alternatively, these are actually two takes, of two separate scripts, recorded separately, then edited into a single clip. With the cut at the point where the first planet simply disappears (just *before* the warp).

"Officer I know having child slaves work the fields picking cotton is illegal, but they're not slaves, they're /volunteers/. It's good work experience, it'll look great on a resume. It's also amazing exercise. Between you and me, officer, they're all from the slums and horribly disadvantaged, this sort of entry-level low-skilled labour is the only way they'll be able to compete with things like a high school diploma when applying for paid work in the future. Are you going to rob children of the opportunity to succeed? That's downright unamerican!"

Pilz posted:Why aren't you? This actually works really well in India, the kids are told they'll be arrested and sent to prison if they're working without a licence or some bullshit, so when the raids happen the kids all insist they're volunteers, or that they're actually paid. Also usually some folks will show up and argue that their kids got swept up in the raid by accident, or that the kids were working for their uncle. The kids are scared and will agree. Basically India's a shithole, which is why so much of Star Citizen is farmed out there. Probably.
