MAF is pretty decent honestly, though he needs to be chained to the net. That said, he might regress with age and without Mike Bales as goalie coach.

All that babbling about the locker room, it looks like a typical unfurnished MGM Resorts International(TM) space. Like there's oddly neglected corners of their hotels that look just like that.

A lot of it is going to be that the company that owns the building sees the team as just another tenant, the building was not built with the idea that it needed this team to justify itself like a lot of venues.

I could definitely see Fleury in Vegas being like Puppa in Tampa or Beezer in Florida where he becomes a stabilizing force that allows the people building the team to focus elsewhere, so if a blue chip defenceman or forward comes along, you go for them. I mean, you should probably focus on those positions anyways, but removing the temptation isn't a terrible idea.

He is, by all accounts, a locker room favorite. I think he'd be good for a team of rag-tag mercenaries, but at the same time I'd hate to see him go.
I strongly suspect he will be moved though. $9-10 million is a bit much for a goaltending tandem - especially on a team that relies more on offense than defensive prowess.

What attitude problem?
Yeah. Losing Fleury is one of those things that I know is what is best for the team, but I'm not going to be happy when it does. He would be great in LV though, he's the kind of person who would do a ton of public appearances and absolutely embrace the chance to be a face of a new franchise.

During a recent game, they showed his stats that prove, career-wise, he's got some of the best stats around, but all I remember is that time he was practically above the faceoff circle near the boards and had to throw his stick towards the net to try to block a shot.

Some team that goes for it this year and ends up with more players than they can protect in the offseason.

I know he's not anywhere near the best player who will be available, but I think the best from the Blackhawks will be Marcus Kruger. Great guy to have on the fourth line and penalty kill.

I had a hard time believing that and then I looked at the Hawks roster and yep, everyone worth protecting already has a NMC except Panarin who will be their 8th protected skater. I hope Vegas doesn't take Kruger because that would be a gift to the Hawks cap management.

I don't know who other teams will make available, but the Rangers will probably expose Oscar Lindberg or Jesper Fast. Fast quietly put up 30 points at even strength last year with limited ES minutes. Lindberg put up 13g 15a before his hips blew up. They're both very good role players who could play softer or harder minutes in a middle six.

On the other hand, maybe they protect one of them and expose the last year of Rick Nash's contract. A low-cost RFA role player is probably worth more in assets than an objectively better high-paid 33-year-old.

Mike Fisher is still pretty good and will probably be unprotected but he would also probably just retire if he got picked up. I expect if he wants to come back Nashville will wait until after the expansion draft to re-sign him.

this was just a thing i thought of in the last minute, but they should let vegas claim people on waivers. i'm not sure how this works when they don't actually play games right now, maybe let the waiving team have priority if they get sent down during vegas' regular season. vegas gets the option to get better quicker, and players are probably fine with not getting their nuts destroyed in real games

I don't think the NHLPA would agree to that. Players that are getting waived especially want a chance to play to show that they can hack it, not sit around and get forgotten about for months.

I think he means the waived player would still play in the AHL, and if he got called back up he'd be on "loan" so to speak to the original team, but next season they'd play in Vegas

I took

to mean they wouldn't be playing. But Vegas can get a better team from the expansion draft anyway, most of these waived dudes would just get waived or cut again next year.

ThinkTank
Oct 23, 2007

I'm sure Vegas aren't keen* to pay players to sit around doing nothing and not contributing for a year either. I think it's probably fair to give Vegas 1st waiver priority from the start of the off-season up until the first game of the 2017-18 season though.

Well, I got an email about a month and a half ago with something I wanted to share with everyone who visits this site, but we’ve been waiting for the perfect time to do it. When we broke the news that November 22nd is the date of the team name unveil, the story I was sent got it’s necessary conclusion, and now it’s time to share it to the world.

The author’s name is Michael Shevlane and he sent in what he dubbed “a dectective noir” about the team name saga the Las Vegas franchise has gone through since the announcement of the team. Without further ado, I present you,
