Wherzun place Dark nogo? I titter, That'd be Centrastayshe! Buried deep behind mountains of wrecked traincars, not far from the part of Unnernee that Deep and Dark call home, is Centrastayshe - Central Station. The only accessible part of Centrastayshe is past a flooded area of the tunnel that Dark refuses to enter - he refuses to attempt the swim. He'n a scaredee! Deep, true to her name, dares the dive often, and enjoys exploring the large area. Sure'n be some skellytuns layn 'bout but 's nice 'n big 'n no Dark'n here! As far as she can tell, she's the first person to discover the place in a very, very long amount of time - but there is a locked door on the far end that she can't seem to break through. 'N nossure I wanna! When she puts her ear up against the door, and stays very silent, she can hear a faint growling noise on the other side.
Guffy Ther's be a kind oldman 'n a skiffer whozalways tryn'a talk'n me aboard. The old man, who calls himself Guffy - at least to Deep - seems to be hunting for ways into Unnernee. He tries to hide this fact from Deep and Dark, but isn't very good at it. Still - he treats them nice, and offers them some small amount of food and water whenever possible. Which, of course, makes them extremely suspicious. He'n's a nice oldman but noshow him into Unnernee nosirree!

Raincatcher, the WaterbearerPoultryGeist posted:Who held the Cistern before you came? Before me, there was Hightide. If not for that man, I would most certainly be dead. And the Shoals would be a much more violent place. You would think that an old, weak man like him wouldn't be capable of much, but the way he used Water and Faith let him walk on even ground with the meanest warlords out there. Back when I met him, I was just another wasteland scavenger. No plans, no skills, no ambitions. I just did what I thought I had to to survive, and that meant drinking the Salt. Slowly, but surely, I was becoming less of a man and more of a monster. The Maelstrom out there was starting to sink its claws into me. Then one day, out in the wilds, I come across this weak, limping old man. And I prepared to do what I thought anybody would do in that situation. I got my weapon out, I got ready to attack, and... He looked right at me. Gave me a look that made me stop in my tracks. He wasn't scared at all. "You. You've been drinking the Salt." There was not an inch of malice in his voice. Not even a little bit. He wasn't like anybody else I'd met out there. But before I had time to even think, there was a gun pressed against my head. "You step the gently caress back! Lay one hand on the Waterbearer and you'll WISH you were dead!" There was someone with him who didn't take kindly to me threatening his source of sustenance. He looked like a bandit, perhaps the opposite of the kind of person you'd expect to hang out with a man of faith. But that's what the Source does. It unites people. And I didn't know it at the time, but Hightide was better at uniting people than anybody else I'd ever know. Not even myself. Like I said, he figured out how to work with all the leaders and warlords out there, on his terms, without even hurting a soul. He stopped wars and ended blood feuds, just by using the power of gentle words and strict enforcement of the Laws. I do mean strict. You would think that a man of his nature would be easy to push around, but if you tried you'd find yourself cut off from his water and his people. Then you'd have to drink the Salt. And do you know what happens when entire communities go Salt-mad at once? They fall apart. They collapse. There's nobody I look up to more than Hightide. Not only is he a guidepost for how I should carry myself as Waterbearer, but if not for him I would have died Salt-mad and feral. PoultryGeist posted:There’s a threat to the Cistern or its people out there, what/who is it? But if something were to happen to destroy people's Faith, that would be different. If enough people lost Faith in us we would no longer be guardians of the Fresh Water, but hoarders of it. Then they might come breaking down our doors and try to take it from us. And then what do we do? In the near term, we would have to give up control or die trying to protect what we have. And then afterwards? Heaven would surely curse us, and everybody in the Shoals would surely perish. Every single one of us. And this brings me to a man by the name of God-Killer. He's the type of man that my friend Clearwater has told me lots of stories about. There's one of him in every era: he is a force sent by the Gods Above, or maybe by the Evils Below, to test and challenge our Faith. He is, in the simplest terms, the ultimate unbeliever. The voice of Heresy and Faithlessness. That which seeks to destroy all that is Holy, and defile all that is Good. He is not just our enemy, but the enemy of anybody that believes in anything more than humanity's basest, cruelest instincts. Of course, that's how you'd describe him from my perspective. I hear he considers himself a... 'challenger' of the status quo. A man who destroys ideologies and beliefs that "should have drowned with the rest of the Old World". He thinks that things like Faith and Civilization are "outdated", and that people these days should be "thinking for themselves." And he's got himself a band of like-minded savages who try to impose their will upon the world like they're helping. There's a... troubling rumor I've heard of him. I've heard that he's heard of us, and that he drinks of the Salt every day just to spite us. To "prove us wrong." And that's not troubling in and of itself -- there's people I've unfortunately seen who have tried the exact same thing and died. But I started hearing these rumors many months ago. If he's really been doing that all this time, he should very much be dead by now. If not from the Salt, then from the Maelstrom. I don't believe it's possible... but every now and then I can't help but wonder if he's figured out something I have not.

Alright folks. I really wish I could keep all of these awesome characters, but I know my limits. Thanks everyone that app’d, I never expected this sort of turnout. But now the time has come for the curtain goes up on the characters of this story: Specialist Sinclair, James R., the Quarantine played by Tricky Raincatcher, the Waterbearer played by Takanago Rox Kit, the Gunlugger played by Brainamp Gallow, the Maestro'd played by Josef bugman Deep, the Child-thing played by Frgrbrgr Hoping the game thread will go up on Sunday/Monday. I’ll be posting a NPC/location sheet and maybe even a map soon. In the meantime, Hx and Sinclair roll for your Weird. Oh, and a Discord for folks to chat in.

These are laws that have been around the Source since before my time, and I will be doing everything in my power to see that they are enforced. In short: I. Don't dishonor the Gods Above II. Don't bring outside grudges into the Cistern III. Do no harm to others, commit no intentional violence IV. Don't lie V. BEHOLD MY MIGHTY ART! A rough map of the Shoals. Folks with places can let me know where they are. There's plenty of blanks for more things so don't worry about making up new areas/buildings/hazards. The Sisters - Massive columns of ‘crete and steel, screen the Shoals from the worst of the Riptide The Jumble - Filled with mostly collapsed ruins and rickety shanties. Maze-town - Area of more intact buildings, connected by bridges and walkways. The Taking King’s former seat of power. rear end in a top hat Atoll - Massive circular ruin covered in coral and Salt-sick Gofish - Shallow area with few buildings. The Fishing Fleet get angry if you cause damage here Dawn Islands - Honest-to-Maelstrom solid land jealousy guarded by its inhabitants. Blue Hole - Luxe town built around a deep abyss. NPC Sheet is here: Various Folks. A Recap You live here: The Old World ended not burnt in fire, but drowned in Salt. Now the remnants of humanity live on flotillas or wreckage-reefs or maybe a few bits of solid land still above the waves. The Shoals are the remnants of a Old World city, bits and pieces poking up and offering shelter from the Maelstrom. But now two changes threaten the status quo. The Taking King, who had beaten the various freaks and fucks of the Shoals into a kind of peace died in the last ‘Storm. And the same ‘Storm delivered the Demon America, relic of the Old World, to the edge of Maze-town. Now the Demon’s howl has echoed across The Shoals, stirring the feral Salt-drinkers, hateful Fin-walkers, and worse from their holes. The Taking King’s lackeys are jockeying for position, and gunfire and explosions are heard near Boaspire what will you do? So I’d like to try and beef up the roster a bit, hopefully adding 2 more PCs. Active PCs are: Specialist Sinclair, James R., the Quarantine Deep, the Child-thing The game thread isn’t too long, but a summation so far: Sinclair has been trying to make amends with the Fishing Fleet for the damage the USS America caused while drifting, and coming to realize the world and ship he’s woken up to is far weirder than the Old World. Deep has discovered that the Demon America is powered by horrible beasts, and may have some unfriendly stowaways. There are also several groups of highly armed assholes running around making friends and shooting enemies. (Game Thread Link) PoultryGeist fucked around with this message at 01:08 on Mar 2, 2017 |
