IIRC I believe League of Legends actually had noticeable effects in how people felt a character played when they launched a patch that nerfed him...except the nerfs never actually went through (dev forgot to actually submit those files to the patch), yet people still thought the character was completely ruined from the changes, and actually stopped using him by a lot.

I was always curious what would happen if you tried replicating that deliberately.

I actually don't think turbo engine is the best. The nuke is great, because if you are aggressive people have already been backed in to a corner. They can't escape it and more often than not you get a free titan again from the nuke :D

It feels like tones enhanced aiming on the tracker rounds has been toned down a LOT. Shes not longer a pilot annihilator.

It also feels like legions spinup time is worse than before, making him easier to hit and run.

Almost all of it because I'm going to guess they changed like decimals on a number and left it at that for people to dig into. Tone still plays like Tone, they didn't actually change gameplay fundamentals, which they probably shouldn't because tone was fine. There was just a wave of people bitching about Tone so they had to "address" it. A game like this has so many layers of mechanical nonsense that it really doesn't matter, outside of fixing map hack so that the mere fact of somebody having a microphone invalidates the geometry of the game

Looking at it now, it really is disgusting. The flesh is transparent. From the start, I had no idea if it would even make a clapping sound. So I diligently reproduced everything about human hands, the bones, joints, and muscles, and then made them slap each other pretty hard.

The softball is really, really good for clearing out AI drop pods. Combine it with an amped wall and you kill most things in one grenade, so you're pretty much guaranteed to grab most of the early bounty spawns unless you get taken out quick (and the wall makes that harder). You can get a titan super fast that way and really take over the early game.

If this plays out like TF1 the problem is that if you are that aggressive then once you're at a high rank you just get executed out of the cockpit before you can eject/nuke, and if you're not super aggressive then everyone just uses their dodges to put a corner/distance between you and them. And if you don't use the nuke outfit then they get even more aggressive with the executions. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. If you're up close when you're doomed it's probably over.

What exactly were people bitching about in the beta when they thought bounty hunt replaced attrition? Attrition kind of blows compared to bounty hunt. Actually everything blows compared to bounty hunt. The more I play them I'm realizing I have pretty much no interest in the other modes.

Qmass
Jun 3, 2003

Bounty hunt plays out the most well designed in some ways. Its very gamey... Like titanfall pushed further towards a sort of moba gameplay cycle. Everything is abstracted into a mechanic.

But the big downside of that, I think, is that it doesn't have the war-like atmosphere that titanfall 1 used to give you. When the whole map had AI soldiers pouring through it kind of freeform and it felt like you were this badass that could rise above it all and achieve some goals within that space.

Streamlining everything down is good in many ways but you also lose something in the process.

Was there more AI in attrition in TF1? because they feel really sparse in TF2 and tripling the amount of them would probably make me want to play it more.

Bounty Hunt is pretty gamey. It can also be super infuriating. it's the only mode that gives me sweaty palms though. The rest just feel like I'm going through the usual motions.

I'm pretty sure I heard somebody say at some point that there are similar amounts of AI, just that the maps are bigger and things are more spread out so you don't notice them as much. It's hard for me to find that source, though, so hopefully somebody remembers where it was mentioned (I could be wrong too!)

zolthorg
May 26, 2009

attrition is fast i think thats why people like it
you dont lose half the points youve made when you die, you dont have to go anywhere to turn points in and people can spawn and be worth nothing to you until you let them go out and collect points to steal

bounty hunt is way better though because it rewards strategy more then "sit in the enemy spawn and farm the one bad player as they spawn 40 times"

Just tell me I'm exotic.
I got a few hours of multiplayer in and I got to say I don't really feel like any of these maps rise to the level of Titanfall 1 maps. Mostly talking from an art design aspect, nothing really beats the themeing of the first Titanfall maps. Not to mention going from PC to PS4 just makes the game look like a blurry mess sometimes.

Why did Tone even need tracker rounds? They are projectiles but it's hardly a Kraber or even Plasma Railgun. It's accurate, the projectile speed is high, the drop is non existent, they do AOE damage and the hitbox is the size of a bus. You can hipfire jump jetting Pilots without even the tracking assist.

Significant travel time + spread that makes it impossible to hit pilots moving at a distance. It's pretty solid on close quarters maps, though.

Temporal Anomaly is by far the more powerful one, it adds a lot to your mobility and therefore survivability. Ricochet Rounds isn't worth it when you can just walk over AI.

In Training posted:

tone was fine.

Tone really wasn't fine, it's the most powerful titan by a long shot and has no obvious weaknesses, unlike Legion. Wallhack shouldn't light up pilots, rockets do too much damage to titans and the 40mm is too good against infantry (Tone being really good against titans or pilots/AI is fine, but not both at once). Legion can at least be hard countered by Ion.

Like I said before, the fix is to give Tone the plasma railgun and Northstar the 40mm. :v: Their kits even work better with the swapped weapons.
