Probably. I noticed it as soon as I got home so I went up to him while my dad was taking the garbage out and told him if he gave me the money back right then that I wouldn't tell our father. He said he didn't have it anymore. While we were gone for an hour or so he went in my room, stole the money, and then had one of his buddies deliver some heroin to him. After talking it over with my sister she said and I agreed that keeping it a secret wouldn't help anything, so I told my dad. He got mad, but my mom flipped out on him when she got home from work. Told him to get out multiple times, but after arguing for a while I guess she calmed down a bit because hes still here. I hid in my bedroom when she started yelling because I am not good with that stuff. Feel hurt and betrayed but also I can't help feeling bad for ratting.

Coming from a dude with sobriety issues you did good. Its a line I never crossed, but I know I'm in the exceptional minority there once hard drugs come in to play and have seen first hand the pain it causes both to users and the used.

You did right.

Absolutely the right thing to do: at the very least, your parents have a right to know what is going on under their roof, especially if your dipshit bro is having heroin delivered there in 30mins or less.

Hey, britgoons. My friend (we're both Danish) is about to rent an apartment in London. The rental agency/landlord/slumlord is asking for a "Character Reference Letter" so he's asked me to write one. Can someone give me the skinny on what that is? I have a template, but I'd like input from someone in the know.

Does he have a record? Because honestly, much as I hate getting the cops involved with anybody, having heroin delivered to your parents' house is a line. The last thing you want is that to become an ongoing thing. That's when you come home to find electronics and furniture missing.

It's basically reassurance from another human being that knows them and can vouch for them not being a horrible slob or drunken dicklord that will trash the place and scream until 6am whilst playing tech house from a large PA system.

They just want to know what your friend is actually like so if you've known them forever and they're a solid person then say so. You're basically writing a review of your friend...

Heroin delivery? gently caress that poo poo mate, you did the right thing. There's just some things you just can not allow to slide and drugs delivery to your home is flat out one of them.

OK, thanks. And what prevents me from describing my horrible shitlord of a friend who pukes on the wallpaper and plays Infected Mushroom at 130dB every night until sunrise as a lovable chap who likes cats and peace and quiet? And can I get in trouble if I lie on it?

Mind you, they're very nice people, and the truth will very much suffice, I'm just thinking it's a bit of a weird system.

Nothing's preventing you from lying except your conscience so yeah it's definitely a weird thing. I had to get one to rent the place I'm in now but as I'm a wonderful person that wasn't an issue.

I think it's more if you're a complete cock then you're probably going to struggle to find someone to write good words about you. And I'm at least 99% sure it's not legally binding because hey, people change and your friend could be the most placid person alive in your company and an utter twat in everyone else's. As long as they don't poopsock the joint up it'll be fine.

Don't feel bad about that, you did the right thing. He's got no incentive to fix himself if there are no consequences for his actions.

Also, it's time to move out. You shouldn't have to worry about people stealing your money or hide in your own room. That's a very toxic environment for your own wellness.

Thats true, I'm saving up for a small place of my own but it will probably be a few more years til I can buy something. I don't feel bad anymore. Especially after the money I paid for his DMV fine and towing fine. I made sure to pay those directly so he couldn't spend it on drugs. Don't know if I mentioned it but he also has a speeding ticket fine due at the end of the week to the tune of $300+ dollars. Not sure where that is going to come from.

Hang in there with he sobriety thing. I sometimes think the only thing that keeps me from being addicted to everything is the overriding fear of being addicted to a thing, and the costs involved. I don't like that feeling of powerlessness. Actually, it seems like my chemistry allows for intoxication, but it's never, like, *SO GOOD* that I want to feel that way all the time, or something. Like, I like a good buzz, but I don't NEED it. The couple of times I tried weed were great, and I'd love for it to be legal for after a stressful day, but I can easily do without. I'm probably just lucky in that respect. Genetics: +1 for low addiction risk. -1 for fat. :(
