I just received another bad recipe - this one is for "seafood platter" - the ingredients include sour cream, mayo, cream cheese, a can of shrimp, mozzarella or "cheddar/marble" cheese, and shrimp cocktail sauce.

I know that some food rules have changed and there are exceptions, but rarely do I come across dishes that do anything but reinforce the old Italian rule of not putting seafood and cheese in the same dish. This is definitely no exception, ugh.

Funny you say that because seafood gratin is actually really good

Lobster macaroni and cheese was a big thing in Boston-area restaurants a few years ago, and I was sad not to be able to try it (demon gluten). It looked and smelled fantastic whenever anyone I was with ordered it.

Also, tuna noodle casserole is awesome, even if it would make Marcella Hazan spin in her grave.

Seafood and cheese can definitely co-exist but not like that "platter" calls for. Gross.

tbh I don't like seafood gratin much or lobster mac n cheese but I agree about crab rangoon.
if you consider cream cheese a cheese, that is.

Like I said, there's exceptions for sure. Not even sure I agree 100% but that's definitely an Italian thing.

:saddowns: That looks like they were going for papryka nadziewana (basically just Polish-style barley-stuffed peppers in paprika and tomato sauce), but I don't know what you have to do to a poor bell pepper, even a yellow one, to make it that color.

Edit: I just clicked the link and it's Czech, but all of us from around there share really similar cuisine, so point still stands.

That is a watery rear end sauce.

And I should know. I grew up in a family where tomato juice was pasta sauce.

Gluten-free people (who are not actually dependent on eating gluten-free for survival), vegans, and paleo people are always so smug about what they cook.
