It's bizarre, because even factoring the inevitable decline from age, he's been a remarkably steady hitter in the past five seasons. He's also proven that he can play 1B adequately, so he shouldn't scare off NL teams. Imagine a team like Cleveland (yes, I understand there's budget constraints with them) adding a player like EE?

Five years ago, he would have got what he wanted and more, probably.

Its weird because with old guy hitting skills it seems pretty likely the #2 best hitter in baseball for past 5 years will be great to good for the next 4. When a contract like the one for Dexter Fowler might turn into michael bourn after a year or two.

The Jay's are looking towards the future. They defiently got a while lot cheaper. Also they started doing the Boston schtick of writing hit job stories about their veteran players as they leave town. It's hilarious and saddening that the majority of comments on websites and sports radio now think bautista is an rear end in a top hat egomaniac and encarnacion betrayed the jays. What a joke. Rogers has fairly successful manipulated the popular opinion in Toronto against the two greatest Jay's since halladay

As far as I was aware the chain so far had gone: Otani isn't being posted anyway so the new CBA won't matter -> Actually he is being posted but don't worry MLB will make an exception -> just kidding no they won't -> Otani says he'll be posted anyway -> kidding again, now he says maybe he won't be.

Tomlinson and Adrianza are way better than Rollins at this point. Maybe they want Rollins to coach for them.

Somehow Rollins is going to make the roster and Tomlinson will start the season in the minors despite being a solid infielder and having an assist from the outfield last year that I'm still not over.

The current News from Japan is:

1. Nippon Ham Fighters are getting flack from fans because Otani's contract seems to low for his value. Fighters have a self set a hard team payroll of $25 -ish million.

2. Nippon Ham Fighters say they are worried about the $20 million transfer changing. (The GM make a vague reference to the fee being eliminated?)

3. Otani doesn't care about money he wants to play in the MLB.

4. Nippon Ham wants to retain certain media rights to Otani. The article says that Rakuten Golden Eagles tired same thing with Tanaka, but the Yankees didn't play ball. The Mariners did this with Orix Blue Wave for two years when Ichiro went to the MLB. (He is still in Orix rental car commercials here.)

5. Nippon Ham is going to try to be the Agent for Otani's contract. They want to get all the blood they can from the stone.

Long and short of is Nippon Ham wants to get paid. But the reporter is thinking Otani is going to get hosed over.

It seems like the most equitable course of action here is that the Ham Fighters get a pile of money, and Otani gets an even larger pile of money, and plays in MLB. Anything that prevents these things from happening is stupid.

I don't think Tomlinson is out of options but Adrianza is, and Ehire gives the Management a boner while Kelby does not. The only thing more arousing for them would be the prospect of a aged veteran slappers-only middle infielder taking the reigns in the middle of the season to lead them to the promised land. Alternatively, somehow Gregor Blanco sneaking back onto the roster yet again.

The Pussy Boss

I've been wondering where Sergio will end up. He's kind of a gimmicky pitcher. Without that magical slider, he would be throwing batting practice out there. Brad Ziegler, who is also a soft-tossing sidearmer, got a modest two-year deal, and most people would say that Ziegler is better, right?

But if you ignore how he does it and just look at the stats, Romo's been drat good for a long time.

Sergio owns. My dad ran into him at a car show a month or two ago and Sergio told him he'd never go to the Dodgers. So I am guessing LAD will throw a brick of money at him and break my dad's heart. :smith:

It surprises me nobody has thrown a wad of money at Romo yet. Although his FIP was terrible compared to 2015 (3.81 vs 1.91) he outperformed it significantly to the tune of a 2.61 ERA, and as far as I can tell in my quick research he was the only Giants reliever to not blow a save (as a side note, the Giants blew a LOT of saves).

Well, more appropriately, it is not a good sign long term. A player who outperforms his FIP is more likely to be as good as his FIP says he is than not.

It's never a good thing but, as you probably already know, Ziegler and other submarine/groundball specialists are the exceptions to the usual BABIP rules

It's certainly not a good sign for a guy like Romo, though, who relied on his slider to succeed in the past. Hanging sliders are death to pitchers. TPB shouldn't really compare their performances and then be surprised Romo hasn't signed because teams don't see them equally and neither should we.
