A bit more info at Variety
http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/amazon-anime-channel-subscription-1201958402/

quote:

The ad-free programming on Amazon’s Anime Strike includes recent series like “The Great Passage”; same-day-as-broadcast series from Japan including “Scum’s Wish” (“Kuzu no Honkai”) and “Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga” (“Ao No Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen”); and older anime hits like “Paprika,” “Tokyo Godfathers” and “Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS.” Content on the channel will be refreshed weekly, Amazon says.

“With anime in particular, there’s a strong, passionate audience that is underserved by traditional pay TV,” said Michael Paull, Amazon’s VP of digital video and head of Amazon Channels worldwide.

Amazon has struck exclusive U.S. streaming deals for several series on Anime Strike, including “Scum’s Wish,” “Onihei,” “The Great Passage,” “Vivid Strike!,” “Crayon-Shin Chan Gaiden: Alien vs. Shinnosuke,” and “Chi’s Sweet Adventure.”

dammit amazon

at least with hulu losing most/all their simulcast anime and CW shows there's pretty much no reason for me to keep paying for them so I can drop that and switch over.

$5/mo for a library of 47 shows is pretty bad, too. If you want me to pay half of what I pay CR, especially on top of my Prime membership, give me half of CR's library.

EDIT: also, Revenge-comedy is gradually getting better. We see how much of a doofus the protagonist still is, in this episode, as well as seeing different sides of some supporting castmembers.

It's atrocious. I bet some poor nerd guy did the math and figured it would be viable. And then Amazon shorts him a couple hundred thousand so all he gets is a few old animes and has to charge a monthly fee.

Also the $5/mo seems to be only a Amazon US thing at this moment and other countries with Amazon Prime will just get those shows as part of their Prime subscription.

$5/mo you may or may not be paying on top of the $99/yr for a prime membership. they've also launched a supplement to their music service that costs another $8/mo more on top of your prime membership ($9/mo for non prime members, lol). honestly just lovely to see, especially for this anime stuff that they've been utterly incompetent in promoting or making easily available. the fact that the article mentions day-of streams is funnier given they ran an entire season with their new acquisitions unavailable in the US (they still aren't available).

I mean I get why they charge on top of it, I save more than $99 a year in shipping costs through Prime. But if you're going to offer a new service, you better beat the market standard instead of offering an inferior product.

That's not to say that Amazon doesn't offer some added value. They manage to get their streaming client onto just about all internet-tv based devices, whereas you pretty much have to watch CR on a gaming console (3 year old Rokus, apparently, work, but the negotiations broke down somewhere I guess with LG/Sharp/etc) or your computer.

I went to buy a TV for the bedroom recently, and Amazon wasn't listed as being among the available apps for the Samsung 32/1080 model, but the point still stands.

Mostly i'm pretty pro-amazon, but this seems like they're doubling down on their already crappy anime providing.

Oh that's pretty annoying, I guess i'm just so used to running everything (netflix, amazon, whatever) through my console it didn't even occur to me that without one it might be harder to use.

Maidragon was pretty decent, would've been bumped up to "solidly good" if there weren't the occasional dumb thing like the boob sound effects

Gabriel Dropout has promise but I'm waiting to see how the next few episodes go

Revenge Porn actively annoyed me; the characters would have to be really exceptional to get past the idiotic plot premise and they definitely weren't

LWA continues to be the cutest, best show and Trigger continues to save anime

But most of all, you cheated BABA

I really, really liked Scum's Wish. Messed up, mature melodrama with interesting framing - it put in the manga frames, which worked with its style? - and I'm honestly eager to see where it goes. I don't think this kind of show can have a happy ending, but I'll hold out hope that everyone survives to adulthood without destroying their emotional ties to each other.

One of CK's things is very large boobs visibly bouncing in panels. KyoAni's merely animating the source material appropriately.

Demi-chan has made the best first impression out of all the anime this season. I went into it blind and not expecting too much, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I was looking forward to Maidragon the most this season, since I'm a big fan of the manga, so I definitely went into it with a bias, but even with that in mind it had a pretty good first episode. I'm looking forward to Kanna showing up.
https://my.mixtape.moe/wimelq.webm

Gabriel Dropout looks like WataMote and Disgaea had a child, which means I'm probably going to enjoy it.
https://my.mixtape.moe/tdenpz.webm

Urara Meirochou looks like your standard 'cute' anime, and I mean that as a good thing.

Kemono Friends might have worked better as a half-length show instead of a full one. At least I got over the animation faster than I thought I would.

Idol Jihen is only going to be worth watching if there's a scene where they prevent World War III by singing to Putin and Trump.

I still want to give Akiba's Trip and ACCA a shot, especially ACCA, because aside from Youju Senki, it looks like I'm going to be watching mostly cute SoL shows this season.

the first half of ep 2 of youjo senki was extremely dreadful isekai fare i had hoped they would cut out. the only bright point in it was the fact that he didnt die by a truck or some heroic action, but because of a fired subordinate pushing him in front of a train. at least it got back to the war is hell stuff after that and the post credits scene is win
