The Milwaukee suburbs on the other hand are like 75% hardcore Republican, they're who vote for Scott Walker and David Clarke; it's the posterchild for inner city segregation and white flight. AFAIK no other US city has as stark political differences as does Milwaukee between the city and suburbs.

One van had too many people in it without seat belts on everyone. At a 3 way light, they were driving through on a green. A duece and a half truck t-boned them. One of my friends got thrown out and got a concussion. He started to see poo poo. The other had his ear ripped off. When the concussion guy got out, he was seeing double. The navy doctor told him ok, wait outside. 4 hours later no one got him so he went in to see the doctor. Doctor had a book about eye balls open and said yah it will fix itself. Don't worry, here is an eyepatch. The CO of the convoy came over and gave the pirate a shirt from the COs command. Thanks for not dieing, here is a t-shirt. He finally had to raise hell and threaten to write his congressmen since no one would let him go see a doctor outside of the navy. With that threat, they let him go get his vision fixed so he stopped seeing double.

Here's CNN's take on the previously-mentioned Ethics Bill that was repealed in South Dakota. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/02/politics/south-dakota-corruption-bill-republican-repeal/ Short version: It's open season for Republicans to just do whatever now. * Background info: In 2015, the ethics watchdogs at the Center for Public Integrity gave South Dakota an "F" grade in its "state integrity investigation." It ranked 47th overall and 49th in transparency of "lobbying disclosure." For our non-American friends, that's 47 & 49 out of only 50. For our non-math-doing friends, that's a real lovely score. * A bill was put on the ballot to create an independent ethics commission. It would also limit allowed gifts from lobbyists. It was put to a public vote, and that bill passed (by 51%) and should have taken effect already. The lawmakers stalled it in the courts for a bit while they thought of a way to keep the sweet lobbyist money flowing. * The lawmakers who would have been effected by this bill finally declared that it only passed because people had been tricked into voting for it. Essentially, the claim is that their constituents votes don't really count, because they're too dumb to be trusted with such matters. * This quote in defense of the move is kind of magical: "The most problematic sections made de facto criminals out of every single official in our state." * The House and Senate together are about 81% Republican. All but one Democrat voted against this move, while only 6 of 85 Republicans voted against it, so it's pretty clear which side wants what. * They also invoked an "emergency" clause when repealing the bill. Why is it an emergency? gently caress you, that's why. That special clause has two effects, it lets the repeal kick in immediately, and it blocks the bill from being added to the next ballot. So the voters legally can't try un-doing this move by voting again. This power grab is a bit different from some of the others going on, in that it's worse. This time the lawmakers didn't strike down some bill put in place on by other lawmakers, they voted down something the people voted into law directly. That's a pretty massive middle finger to their constituency, and sets a very bad precedent. Those people who feel like their vote doesn't matter? Well, this time they were proven 100% correct, their votes didn't matter because they didn't vote how the Republican lawmakers wanted. Unrelated bonus video that gives me a bit of a headache when I realize it's not a joke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R42mFx3_ss

Yeah the Republicans did basically the same thing when Michigan voters repealed that emergency manager law. Nothing matters.
|
# ? Feb 3, 2017 04:54 |
|
This will probably end up like the Arizona case, where the legislature tried to override the independent redistricting commission that was voted in via referendum. It'll probably make it to the supreme court and the voters will win via a 5-4 vote, and Republicans will cry about judicial overreach preventing them from being dicks.
