I'm fairly interested in Infinity Train because the pilot had some imaginative ideas for carriages, and a cool design towards the end. Certainly it had some dumb jokes too, like the fart carriage, but the way I see it, is if most of your output is interesting, you should be allowed to indulge yourself and wallow in a little something stupid or base. It's like Alan Moore, he wrote Watchmen and a bunch of intelligent, interesting stories, so if he and his wife drew fairytale porn once, who gives a poo poo? They want to make a porn together, Alan has done some impressive stuff so let him indulge himself. Akira Toriyama wrote multiple successful manga, that became successful Anime, for decades. The game Blue Dragon, 80% of those enemies were poop jokes. Well crafted, imaginative poop jokes that had many variations. He wants to think like a 12-year old? Fine. He's had a lucrative career. Of course, I'm not actually comparing the inifnity Train people to these creators, I'm just making a point. If the show happens and is mostly lazy jokes, that will be a shame, but from what we've seen this series has potential for interesting stuff, so fingers crossed.

Benne posted:I still feel a little weird going about a Disney XD show, but Star Vs. charmed the gently caress out of me and I'd like to consider this thread a safe space for geeking out about it. Even though they don't want to do full-on serialisation, Season 2 is supposedly going to introduce more story and character arcs, and after the way they suddenly went balls-out with setting ongoing things up in the last few episodes produced in the first season (Hawk Moth having a connection to Adrien's missing mother, Master Fu, all the Miraculous-related stuff in Gabriel's safe, Marinette and Adrien's relationship starting to be more than just a one-sided crush, Gabriel suspecting that his son is Cat Noir, HAWK MOTH IS PRETTY loving OBVIOUSLY ADRIEN'S DAD HOLY poo poo) I can't wait to see what happens next. Although giving loving Chloe superpowers is such a major change to the balance of the show that it could completely wreck the whole thing. Have to see how that (and Alya too) shakes out...

BioEnchanted posted:I think that the aspects that Star Vs brings into question implies interesting questions about other aspects, for example, the Great Monster Massacre - a Genocide that was taught as a less one-handed victory than it was because it made Mewny look better in the history books to say "We fought against the monster hordes" than to admit "We just randomly murdered anyone we could find until their land was ours" The show uses this and BuffFrog/Yvgeny Bulgoyaboff to call into question the whole idea that monsters were evil, so this brings up the question - Everyone remembers Eclipsa Butterfly as the "Evil Queen" of the family, but what if she wasn't evil? Her magics were a double edged sword yes, but we haven't seen how she used them, only that she did. My thinking is that she wasn't evil, but that she sympathised with the monster's story and had her name dragged through the mud due to the stereotype of monsters being evil. Everyone is using the fact that Star is being compared to her as a "Is Star turning evil" question, but she isn't - she is becoming like Eclipsa, but it will be a good thing. I don't think her parents are bastards or evil or anything, I'd say they're more centre-evil. Centralists who don't want to challenge the status quo because it works for them. I guess that's pretty evil, but I'm guessing they're going to do a bunch of metaphors about racism and having different opinions of it in your family or something.

Yeah, the Mewnians don't strike me as particularly evil or malicious, just ignorant and kind of up their own asses. It seems clear that Star will act as a bridge of sorts to help them realize their prejudices and reconcile with the monsters.

Quest For Glory II posted:I remember before Adult Swim launched, they aired the pilots to several shows at completely arbitrary times late at night (before Adult Swim was even announced), including Sealab. This may be like that, but since the late timeslots are taken up and no longer Toonheads reruns they chose to do it early morning instead. I remember catching the Sealab and Brak Show pilots while staying up late one night in college, and I started setting my VCR to record all night to catch other random crazy poo poo. I miss those days, when CN was more experimental and every day wasn't marathons of the same episodes of their two most popular shows, followed by an Adult Swim block consisting mostly of primetime Fox animation from 10 years ago.

To be fair Adult Swim started doing those "infomercials" at like 3 in the morning, and those are pretty great.

Something I was just reminded of was a fairly strange choice of joke in the old show Sabrina the Teenage Witch: At one point in a frigid environment she makes a comment about it being "Colder than my" before getting cut off, obviously about to make a comment that it was "colder than a witch's tit". Also the later seasons, despite not being quite as good, had hilarious performances from Harvey - him knowing Sabrina's secret was rife with comedic potential, like when Salem tempts him into cheating at poker, offering to signal him the other player's cards - Harvey initially refuses, but Josh is a bad enough winner that it pisses Harvey off enough to give Salem "The nod" to start the cheating properly. Harvey got to be the bad boy for a bit, and it was amazing. Harvey in general is at his best in the later seasons, my favourite part of the entire show was when him a Josh discuss Sabrina, and Harvey thinks Josh knows about the magic, while Josh thinks Harvey is being metaphorical. This happens: J: I think I've figured out why you two broke up... H: Wait, you have?! J: Yeah, she keeps trying to turn this into something it isn't (forgot the actual transition line) H: Has she turned you into a puppy yet? J: Oh, she's trying... H: Yeah, well that's nothing compared to the time she made me pregnant ... J: What are you talking about? H: Wait, what are you talking about. *Harvey flees in a panic leaving a bewildered Josh* BioEnchanted fucked around with this message at 06:45 on Feb 13, 2017 |

Water physics are really cool and important in games, though. Checking out the quality of water is like a benchmark of graphics. But I don't really want to derail this any further. My favorite might be Witcher 3. The water isn't completely realistic, but stylistically designed to look really pretty. The waves in the boat Assassins Creed games where incredible too.
