Electing a the former Secretary of Labor for an extremely popular president who then nominated his chief rival as his assistant signals doom and gloom because: You know what. You're right. It's not. That was my own depression and the booze talking. For the past several years I have sat here in cheeseland and watched as the skilled labor guys and gals got sucked into the R media machine and started blaming everything on the black guy. I watched them get butthurt over "deplorables", and "emails" and even a few ben gazis. They piss and moan how illegals are taking their jobs (They aren't, there is a skilled labor shortage here), and give me blank stares or start considering me "elitest" when I tried convincing them otherwise. They are ecstatic that the ACA is gonna get repealed, because they all have cushy healthcare, and can't even imagine that Walker is gonna start loving with them next once he's done with the Teachers. I apologize for shitposting. I realize Perez got elected today, and can't change poo poo overnight. I'm just not sure that the DNC strategy wizz kids see the size of the iceberg. Especially here. Wisconsin Ds can't get rid of Walker, and keep running the same folks to lose again and again. I've said it once and I'll say it again. If you identify as progressive/liberal and your only interaction with the process outside of elections is carping about it on social media or an internet forum: YOU. ARE. PART. OF. THE. PROBLEM. Get involved. You'd be surprised at the energy and frustration that is out there and parts of the Democratic party (including Tom Perez) are trying to figure out how to harness that energy. It feels good to be doing something as well.

A lot of people don't get this. The DNC chair isn't the head of ideological purity. The DNC exists to direct funding and strategy towards the goal of getting more Democrats elected. Howard Dean was a good chair because he was effective at getting Democrats in power. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was a bad chair because she was not. That is al that matters for that role.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/24/us/politics/hr-mcmaster-trump-islam.html?mtrref=t.co&_r=0 General McMaster is breaking with Trump's team's views on Islamic Terrorism, going so far as to say that its 'Unhelpful' to call it 'Radical-Islamic Terrorism' because Islamic Terrorists are 'Un-Islamic'. I like this guy. I hope he lasts.

McMaster was a really standup dude in OIF 3/4 when we were in Tal'Afar. He bucked CENTCOM dogma at the time and everyone figured he was pissing away his chances at stars. He got passed over a few times. edit: I don't think he'll last though, not with Bannon having a hateboner for him.

They are controlling access to Trump, and I think we know why: Miller and Bannon know Trump is easily swayed if confronted, if they can keep McMaster and others with critical points of view at a distance, they can control how Trump reacts. He really is just a puppet/parrot for Bannon and Miller. I wouldn't be surprised if they were ensuring that Trump was getting his info from Fox and Alex Jones on purpose.

Thing is, that form of control isn't total. They still have to severely neuter whatever comes his way in the form of memos filled with lavish praise so he doesn't go off and decide to do a presser because he feels aggrieved. I don't listen to Alex Jones, but I'm not so sure it's such a great idea for that to remain one of his news sources, from Bannon and Miller's perspective. Maybe they have a handle on Jones I'm not aware of, but it feels like allowing someone of his character any sort of sway on Trump is a recipe for disaster -- and not the sort Bannon wants, either. That all said, yeah, they're taking full advantage of his weak little sponge brain.

What you seem to have misread is my casting aspersions on the motivation of the entrenched DNC establishment—they backed Perez because he's a known quantity and didn't get in the way of longstanding goal of putting Hillary in the White House, despite her many flagrant shortcomings. If Perez is to be successful, he needs to root out the pervasive groupthink that has lead the Democratic Party to its lowest point since Reconstruction. Maybe his experience working in the machine will prove essential to its rebirth. Acebuckeye13 posted:Perez's main claim to fame is that he was Obama's Secretary of Labor, where he did a pretty good job of revitalizing the Department of Labor and implementing worker-friendly policies, including the revamped overtime rules that are currently in limbo. Before that he was Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, where he did a lot of work combating voter suppression and other issues.
