It's a shame she's not calling him bakamoto in the original because then it would be suckamoto, which sort of works.

That is Maria, yeah. A lot of NINE-exclusive demons were Gnostic based, like, say, Adam and Eve, or Sophia or Yaldabaoth. Though that last one was only until Atlus went on a big, BIG Demiurge kick around about the original SJ release.

Fun fact: Another name for Demiurge is Yaldabaoth, and Yaldabaoth is one of the many names/masks of Nyarlathotep.

If they make SJ not horrible to play I'd definitely be interested in the remake. Not getting my hopes up though.

Hopefully they decide to go with the IV/Apocalypse engine and do a full remake. I think that with Strange Journey they were trying to recapture the feel of the two Original Shin Megami Tensei games for the Super Famicom (and the Etrian Odyssey franchise; after all, the game was done using a version of the EO engine). And while I admit that the first 2 SMT games have NOT aged gracefully, at the very least 90% of the battles in those went by fast. In Strange Journey, even the random encounters were a loving pain in the rear end.

At one point, during the first time I played SJ, I actually replayed SMT 2 and I actually finished it rather fast, despite the fact that, you know, it was a 18-year old game versus a 3-year-old game (the 3DSXL was the first new console I actually owned in cheese knows how long, as opposed to borrowing them). Meanwhile, Strange Journey kept breaking my balls in crueler ways.

I liked SJ but I don't think I like it enough to go through those dungeons again.

I would like less remakes and more offshoots, like all those cool PS2 games we got.

I knew if I said this someone would tell me about a game I didn't even know existed. Puppet master.

I wasn't really thinking very hard when I said that though. I mean, I read a Let's Play of one of the Last Bible games.

It's fine. It's nice change of pace from "We're teens in Tokyo" but the dungeons are kind of horrendous to actually explore (thank g*d it's 2017 and people will have maps of every dungeon the day after it's released). The bosses could be bullshit too, but Deep Strange Journey will purportedly have difficulty selection so it's like, whatever.

It definitely has the least interesting incarnation of the SMT "Hit Enemy Weakness" Battle System though, but maybe they'll adjust that for the 3DS version.

SJ's setting is hella cool and the game is pretty good at evoking the moods it wants to hit, that kinda stuff counts a lot for some people

they went a little too far on the map design though, i wouldn't complain if that was toned down a little

Wasn't SJ essentially a throwback to SMT1/2? No press turn, first person dungeons, I heard the story was pretty similar. That's the only way it makes sense as the remake because it's a throwback to the beginning of the series.

Yep, and just as soul crushing.

Thankfully they never did something like having you go through gently caress huge maze, have your arm chopped off, then force you to trek through the gently caress huge maze again but without your demons and with a unique status condition that drained health.

I really wanna know what version of SJ you played, because it sure isn't the one that was released.

e; Hell, on the DS alone Devil Survivor 1 gets more obtuse and bullshit with most of its stuff and that's still ridiculously straightforward compared to a ton of things.

SJ had some pretty bullshit maps you had to go through involving teleports or no minimap. DS1/2 didn't have that many bullshit parts except maybe beldr and some escort missions? Can't exactly remember them.

The greatest of feasts

I hope if they do add in an easier mode, they hire Dingaling/Widdly2Diddly to design it. I do sincerely hope that they rebalance the dungeons though. I really did enjoy the story, and the Neutral path is just one moment of badass for humanity as a whole after another. But the game is close to outstaying its welcome after Sector F, and there's still another 3 or 4 to go after that (not to mention a shitton of backtracking).

I would sell every last one of you in here for a modern remake of SMTI&II though. Keep the same bleak feeling, avoid going too heavy into Persona-style lightness and I'll put my money down the moment they announce it..

I really do wish there was a way to import old save data from the DS versions of Devil Survivor 1/2 into their 3DS equivalents. I put too much blood, sweat, and tears into building those teams, compendiums, and NG+ options (in the case of DS2) and I'll be damned if I'm going to start over.
