Tasty

It's an entirely reasonable way to run a team to get the biggest paydriver you can in and use it to pay for the best driver you can attract in seat 2.

Where it falls down of course is if that best driver is Felipe Massa.

Practical concerns do kick in at some point though, Williams learned that one with Pastor, if your mechanics are constantly rebuilding the car then they burn out and they quit, or they don't have time to double check to make sure equipment that can burn down your garage is safe.

They're apparently setting up temporary grandstands at the circuit which must not be mentioned for a race there.

Mclaren ran faster than mercedes in FP1, and ran as many laps as ferrari in FP2.

I can't understand why they won't just agree to make a police escort available to give an ambulance a reasonable chance of making it to the nearest FIA approved hospital in time. This seems like a basic rear end contingency plan to get venues to arrange, especially in light of Suzuka a few years back.

So what happens if FP3 is cancelled too? They give up or people just give it their best guess on setup?

There's some talk of binning FP3 and running qualifying and the race tomorrow because the forecast for sunday is this same poo poo.

It probably won't happen, but the race could be hosed up by smog/fog

China is a great country and I for one would be sad to see it join it's smoggy-piece-of-poo poo brother India in being dropped from the F1 calendar.

Drivers don't pull over for emergency vehicles in China, doesn't matter if it's police or ambulance. I used to live next to a hospital and every time I went outside I would see ambulances stuck in traffic. Also, unless something has changed since 2013, the FIA approved hospital is just about on the other side of the city, and Shanghai is a expansive loving city.

In other words;

You'd think that part of the FIA approval process would be "Hospital is not on the other side of a city that is impossible to cross in road vehicles in a reasonable timeframe"

Snap-ons truly are the best. I saw a video of some TV thing in Japan where Japanese Honda mechanics were taking apart a 1960s Honda GP motorcycle. (HRC motorcycle engineers are the best in the world, unlike Honda car engineers who are shameful and bad) They all used Snap-on. Also Made in America.
