Long Beach is a cool and awesome circuit, especially for IMSA. F1 should never run there simply because the support series are way too drat fun to watch even as a tv viewer. Also, I do have a potentially dumb rear end question. Would it be fair to say that Can Am, F5000 were ancestors to modern IndyCar racing as much as say, USAC pre-1978 or am I reading into their involvement in American Auto racing too much?

Yeah I was watching "WINNING" and it showed Newman's character racing Can Am at Road America, Cup at Riverside, then you know...racing Eagle's at IMS. I'm trying to define how venues like Mid Ohio, Road America, Laguna Seca, Portland, and The Glen kinda evolved from having Can Am/F5000 (and F1 in the case of The Glen) weekends to having CART take over their weekends. Not to mention a lot of the drivers and owners (Paul Newman, Carl Haas, Roger Penske) going over to Indy. It feels like their was a vacuum created with the collapse of Can Am, F5000 and CART seemed to fill that void during the 80's, 90's.

I think having it July 4th week would be there best bet for a good weekend. (Can mix in fireworks or whatever). I imagine MRTI, SST, and PWC would be the "support" series I kinda wonder if Ford's lack of involvement in open wheel has also hurt bringing back the weekend?. They have a lot of plants around NEOhio, and I can recall them being  about Mario showing off the 05 Ford GT during pre-race in the mid-2000s. Could be a "Honda Picnic at Mid Ohio"-like scenario, sadly.
