Anyone buying stuff for the closing RadioShack stores? I spent close to $500 the last two days at local stores closing down, mostly on SeeedStudio and Adafruit stuff. And LEDs. one receipt was 4.5 feet long, and the one today is around 7.5feet.

All of ours in Canada turned into cellphone stores like a decade ago. I'm sort of sad that I can't get in on this rich bounty.

Princess Auto has been picking up a bunch of surplus stuff that the Radio Shack warehouse has been clearing out, but it's mostly like Arduino shields and ludicrously priced resistor assortment kits.

Seeed stuff would be amazing.

Stupid drivers always breaking car, Gronk fix car...
I paid $17 for a Seeed GRPS Shield and $6 each for two Seeed Ethernet Shields. I don't even have an Arduino. I bought a BASIC Stamp II, the original version blinked many an LED when I was a kid. I think I have enough LEDs to blow one up a day for at least a year. They want too much for the component cabinets though, $300 for each 7 drawer unit. They're nice, but I don't want to spend $900 for enough drawers of bitter nostalgia.

I wonder if I should buy the rest of the half dozen GPRS shields they have...

If the commute time is the big problem, find a way to minimize it.

May is such a cynical poo poo. Start the leaving process then call an election as even if she loses the likelihood of getting the Article 50 letter just cancelled will not happen since the EU are rightly pissed off. Of course who will she lose to? Labour are too busy making GBS threads in their own bed then smearing it over themselves and the libdems don't really exist anymore. Hopefully The Raving Monster Loony Party will be on my expat postal ballot.

100% true.

Funny how many people already have extensive plans about what they would do with their lottery winnings, despite how few people actually win.

100%, but it's a way to scratch the gambling itch some people have that's relatively safe. Dropping a buck on a scratch off every now and then is a lot easier to not go overboard with than say Texas hold-em.

Agreed, one of my buddies does the scratchies and if he didn't have those he'd probably be at the Tampa casino every weekend losing a hell of a lot more.

Then I think about Chinese government/cultural practises and the general shittiness of the boomers and I decide I probably don't ever want to buy from a company that would cater to those quality demographics.

Until I put a new engine in my Baja, my current daily is my grandmother's 2005 Le Sabre. It's definitely the kind of car you feel like should come with a captain's hat but it has a decent amount of power and it's very comfortable. I took it from MT to OR in January and it just ate up the miles. I have a soft spot for big, yacht-like GM cars though. I drove an Olds 88 for a while in high school.

Yeah, the Radio Shacks here in TX (Where Tandy Corp is headquartered!) closed up like last year, maybe 2015. I barely paid attention, because they were mostly a store for cell phones and electronics that I could get cheaper elsewhere. At least they still had a component corner.

Just had a job interview with the parent company of Funimation, the anime guys. Pay is a bit less than I make now (if I still actually have a job when their done "reviewing"), but same as what I was making 7 months ago, so not end of the world, and since it's a relatively small company, IT actually sounds interesting there. The do Macs and Windows, some VMs, and the IT department currently consists of 3 guys, so would be doing everything from PC janitor up to servers and networking, including cable monkey duties. Even security cameras. I'm OK with this. It would play well with my borderline ADHD. I actually hope I get it. Sounds like somewhere I would actually want to go on a daily basis.

Thanks to this thread and talking about asbestos, I looked into my garage floor situation. There's 9" tiles (which I'm told always contain asbestos, they switched to 12" afterwards as a way to distinguish it) that are coated with epoxy. Dude who sold the house coated the floor just before he left, now I'm seeing the checkerboard cracking pattern/broken rear end floor wherever I use a jack and have to pay to fix it. :argh:

But hopefully I'll have a nice floor and garage afterwards.
