In the memorial thread the guy posts that it was running lambda of 1.0 to 1.2 when it was on boost and if anything he thinks the sensor was reading low.

Opel was losing about 2 Billion a year apparently However wether that was before or the after GM's fees they demand from subsidiaries, I dont know. Holden was said to be losing a lot of money but the truth was they were profitable .... except GM charged them design fees for a platform Holden designed in the first place. It's absurd

Buick talk:

I have an Encore (the little rollerskate SUV) as a rental this week for travel. Just roomy enough for 4. Notably good ride, and is quiet for something so tiny. Handles and brakes as well as something as small as it is should, but is no Miata. Nice interior and satnav is easy to use.

Over 250 miles I'm averaging 32 mpg in 50/50 driving. I saw 40 mpg on a 50 mile freeway round trip at 65 mph (totally unexpected).

Biggest disappointment is the engine. It's smooth enough around town but well short of beans for passing, merging, or anything requiring any urgency. Engine sounds like a vacuum cleaner when pushed and makes more noise than power.

I think it's overpriced for what it is - sticker on this one says $28k. I'm pretty sure no one is paying that. Would be a nice $23k vehicle. At $28k I'd rather buy a CRV and get similar equipment, more room, an engine that goes and reasonably close gas mileage.

Someone else was putting a 4.6 into... 240SX I think? All I remember was jokingly calling it the FM46DE model.

Car seems pretty solid. Black, "former detective's car" (the interior's clean enough I might believe it), full-size wheel covers instead of the typical cop hubcaps. Suspension feels tight (for a Panther, anyway), and brakes are nice and firm, if a bit longer travel than I'm used to. Only real issues are the ABS/brake light will come on every other startup or so, and the center brake light isn't illuminating. Other than that... it's a CVPI, you guys know the deal.

E: Am I crazy or did they change the default font on the forums? Post body text looks normal if I zoom out to 90%, but then all the headers and stuff are weirdly small.

Also can't go wrong with a CVPI other than fuel mileage, but if you're just bumming around town mostly and not driving a whole lot no biggie. Just check the Panther thread if you need more info.

The MSP had a black interior which is the bit that really matters, I'm p much used to it by now.

Upshot is it should be easy to find window vent shades for it and just leave em cracked when I park in sunlight.

I noticed that too, was thinking something got hosed up in Chrome (which has been having some issues lately for me anyway).

Cripes, a Ford mod motor into a 240? How much use of the BFH was that gonna take? That's a bigass engine (physically) for that engine bay.

... 138 hp, 148 ft/lbs, from a 1.4L. Holy crap GM, talk about building to CAFE standards and not giving two shits about power. Those are decent numbers from such a small engine, but that's a whole lotta car for that thing to be dragging around.

They do offer another 1.4 with 153 hp/177 ft lbs, but that's still gotta be painful, and you can bet any rental has the older base engine.

BITTER POOR PERSON
Job chat - eagerly awaiting a call back from the place I interviewed with in February and again about a month ago, their own deadline for deciding was end of last week. Fired off an email early Friday afternoon politely asking WTF, they responded Monday with "by the end of this week." Given that they haven't held to any of the previous timetables I'm not sure if I believe them but I still have my fingers crossed.

Throwing a wrench into the works - I got a call from a recruiter today whom I spoke with about a month ago, he's looking to quickly fill another computer janitor position. While it isn't my preference (trying to get away from computer janitor jobs) and the drive isn't ideal (about 50 miles round trip, 99% highway) it does pay slightly more than I was making at the call center, and they want to interview me on Thursday with an expectation to fill the position "by early next week." It is a (W2) contract gig through the end of the year with possibility for extension or being hired on directly with the company - a home/auto/farm insurer. Can't really in good conscience turn down a position that would pay the bills.

I'm really holding out for the first place because in addition to more money (its a system engineer position, so easily $10k more to start since they'd have to train me to get me up to speed) they also offer better benefits - high deductible insurance plan but they pay for all but 5% of premiums - and the commute is roughly half the distance to the place I got called for today. Hopefully either way I'll be back to work by this time next week :ohdear:
