Oooooooooooh!

I was about to say that it's not the most TV IV thread until we have debates about the protagonist speaking "with Mike's voice" but Twin Peaks is the kinda show where something weird like that could genuinely happen, so it's all fair game.

Wally Brando is amazing and I also liked the Doris scene simply because of Forster's reactions. You really get a sense of how their relationship works. Doris is a shithead though

Just gonna pimp out my TP podcast again as our latest ep just went up. As well as episode stuff we talk about the use of female characters and if all the different storylines will get the time they need and such. It's at http://www.hitwithwrench.com/podcasts/ or search PEAKED on iTunes.

The format is that I'm the fanboy who remembers it all and he's the Lynch skeptic who hasn't watched the show since last decade, so there's a lot of explanation for any other newbies and also debate on the merit of a bunch of stuff.

I won't make these posts if it annoys anyone but I love talking about this show and making this podcast :)

She's gorgeous but her acting is terrible... It's almost like she's uncomfortable playing an FBI agent.

I was heartbroken watching Dougie in this last episode. The way he walks - that cautious shuffle - and his facial expressions remind me so much of this lady I knew who had dementia. Her husband had to lead her around like they did with Dougie in the office. Playing someone who is not "there" has got to be difficult, but MacLachlan is amazing.

Completely unrelated(?), I wonder what makes DougieCoop cry seeing Sonny Jim in the car? Certainly hard to tell at this point what is going through DougieCoop's mind (except coffee), but it doesn't seem like he's got any of Dougie's old memories (which would make sense if they are separate bodies and beings, which seems likely based on the manner of their exchange.)

remusclaw posted:

If Cooper is slowly coming to his senses, and it seems to be the case that he is, it stands to reason that he feels for the kid. Sonny obviously has some affection for Dougie, and Dougie is gone. Cooper is not like Norma and Ed, he wont stay in a relationship just to avoid hurting peoples feelings.

I interpreted it as the "real" Cooper's emotional reaction as it sinks in that he's essentially looking at his own son. Whatever the case, it's my favorite scene of this episode alongside the Becky scene, and one of my favorites in the new series. MacLachlan is doing an amazing job.

Holy poo poo you're right, the face is literally leaning through the frame slightly, like from a side-view his forehead and nose would be like sticking out :stare:

This might just be wonky CGI, but if it's foreshadowing then I'm going to be goddamn terrified if some Bob avatar ever climbs out of a mirror :gonk: flashbacks to the first time I saw Ringu long before the American remake knowing nothing at the start. That film always seemed like it had a bit of Lynch and a bit Cronenberg in equal doses which is what really makes it work - but just the original Japanese one, the filming style of it and the low-budget approach with a very flat color palette and liberal use of inky darkness in key shots,

But anyway, yeah that's horrifying. Especially combined with the brief backward-talking in episode 4. I was sad we didn't see Gordon or Albert - so many characters! But really, some of these characters? We may not see them for 10 more episodes, whereupon they become major players for 2 straight episodes and then vanish. I think we have to be ready for that.

Someone should make a big physical WEB of all the characters and their connections. Well, I suppose you could just make a PDF or something in photoshop that does the same thing but online, It would be be actually helpful to see all the connections visualized and cross-referenced with physical locales, of course.

I just don't understand why the mob boss would think it was the managers fault

coop was unfathomably lucky in hitting so many jackpots. such that the simplest explanation (aside from supernatural magic) is that he cheated, somehow, in some way that can't be proven, and that the floor boss guy must have been in on it. you basically can't cheat at slot machines without tampering with them, which only someone who works at/for the casino could feasibly pull off

moist turtleneck posted:

At the same time though I dunno how they couldn't corral a shuffling idiot in the time it took to get 30 jackpots

coop wasn't doing anything wrong. he was just getting super lucky. since casinos are all about the fantasy of winning, you don't want to drag winners off the floor when they've won too much. you keep an eye on them to see if they're cheating, or keep them around until their luck runs out and they lose back most or all of the money you gave them. this is why floor boss guy sent coop home in a limo and dared him to come back and try again. the house doesn't know what to do if a player has been reborn from another plane and is using dark magic to press their luck to improbable levels

I don't think she's ugly, but the little neck twist thing she does all the time doesn't look very cool. She was doing it in interviews too, so I don't know if she was still channeling the character or what. Overall I think she'll be an interesting character.
