I don't think any bait short of full independence would ever win them over. Given their and Corbyn's historic links, I reckon some trolling is on the cards though. There's plenty they can do to make a Tory/DUP coalition look bad without having to take their seats. The very fact that the DUP are going to be so involved, means that the Northern Ireland parties generally will be able to get more coverage.

I don't think any bait short of full independence would ever win them over. To be fair the original sinn fein considered the Dail and Stormont illegitimate and they caved on that, so maybe if the opportunity to gently caress over the DUP is too tempting some might consider it. That said I wouldn't count on it, some of the hardcore republicans get really touchy about that oath.

So the PM doesn't have to win a 50%+1 vote of the MPs or anything, they can be PM with a plurality and then try to pass laws with votes from people that wouldn't vote for her to lead?

PostNouveau posted:Oh that's interesting. I didn't know that was possible. She just has to have enough guaranteed support to survive votes of no confidence and pass the Queen's speech. That's how confidence and supply arrangements work. People agree to support on votes of no confidence and pass the Queen's speech, generally in exchange for quite extensive policy concessions (it's been estimated every vote the DUP helped with in the previous equivalent arrangement cost about 1 billion pounds in concessionary spending in Northern Ireland), then vote freely on other issues.

Then Brexit negotiations kick off, the Leave fuckheads get really, really angry because the only deal May might be able to get through Parliament would be the softest of soft Brexits (read: the UK still has all the obligations and restrictions of being in Europe but without any voice in the European Parliament) and the next election gets called immediately thereafter. May is only PM as scapegoat for Brexit, imo, but Boris (worra ledge) is probably too sodding thick to realise that. looks like hes a staunch lib dem so by definition his vote is in fact utterly worthless

like 'labour does better than expected and tory gains are kept to a manageable level' sure, but gaining seats was surely a pipe dream with the forces arrayed against corbyn and the difficulty he had had fighting them so far but that's all gone now. everything is gone. the walls have vanished and the air is full of light
