Now I always forget, ROSS is the tradcath who thinks that abortion and gays are literally the only force keeping the west from becoming a utopia and ROD is the dude who lives in some kinda crazy compound with quasi-Amish people because he saw a boob once and thinks D&D made trans people exist because escapism, right? Weird to see the Rod/Ross crossover go the other way with Ross now only just now learning escapism is real and becoming terrified of it.

I can't figure out if he means that that's an intrinsic self-delusion specific to liberalism, or if he's saying that it is actually human nature for all of us to want to be dominated by our Betters, which is a pretty bleak admission to make about your worldview

either way, let's not forget all those khaleesi hillary takes from last year, so I guess he's not all wrong

He is reaching but if you parse liberals as Dem loyalists it's not hard to find cheerleading for a dynastic political class.

I am obligated to mention Ross's college bedroom decor was posters of Russell Crowe in Gladiator and Audrey Hepburn.

I like Matt on Twitter and the podcast but honestly the first 3-4 paragraphs of this are awful, impenetrable writing. It's good after that but it reads like Matt started writing that sober and spent way too much time with a thesaurus, then as he got more drunk/stoned just started free-flow ranting which reads far better.

edit: basically the writing style reads as very academic and passive-voiced to me.

quote:

While most other left parties in the West emerged from the labor militancy of the late-nineteenth century, creating mass membership bases and close structural ties to labor unions, the Democratic Party, having existed in some form since the early Republic, absorbed working-class voters into their broader electoral coalition without offering any kind of built-in commitment to their agenda in exchange.

I liked that passage. It was a stark illustration of why the Democrats have a pretty easy time unhitching themselves from the concerns of labor.

Yeah as a non-American it wasn't even something I had thought of before but it explains the current situation so drat well. When socialist parties were being born and gaining power in the rest of the world, American socialists were being bombed from airplanes.
