The Gambit system is absolutely loving fantastic but really hurt by having to "buy Gambits" (why? Why put this in the game, what purpose does this serve, Square?)

The combat in general is very fun and punchy while also letting you make it "real time with pause" if you want to micromanage everything.

The story and characters are probably the best out of every FF post-9.

It's just that the gameplay loop they overlaid all this onto is unnecessarily huge and only becomes apparently great when you can speed that part of the game up four times over.

It's another way this game reminds me of Star Wars. Like in Rogue One, at the final mission, they're assaulting this super important military base, that also for no goddamn reason has just shitloads of empty space between buildings and mile-long pathways everywhere. But at least since that's a movie you can appreciate "wow, that looks cool" without having to sit there and watch them run the two miles from their ship to the base.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing but the way I read it is the majority of the base is underground, and it's all spaced out because they have many different landing pads around the central hub which is the satellite tower. As for why it's that big it's clearly a central research facility for a big chunk of the empire.

I'm having this weird moment right now where I realize maybe FFXII isn't as good as I thought it was. I love the story, world, and music, but right now I'm having a hard time coming up with anything nice to say about the actual game part. This conversation has me kind of running down all the astoundingly dumb poo poo the game pulls, and every time I try to excuse it, the reason I can come up with is, "Well, the game's easy enough that it doesn't matter what you do or what spells you have anyway," which is... not really very good?

IDK works for me. Most RPGs the combat gets real dull over time, I'd rather just focus on the story and XII lets me do that :)

Easiest thing to do is have someone make/find a list of every spell/technique found in a chest listed in story sequential order for quick reference. That way nobody gets hosed over and you can skip all the other chests.

I'm making a list of this stuff and one thing stood out to me:
Wither and Addle are in a 10% chance to spawn chest. They're strong skills and I think they just wanted to hide them instead of balancing them out.

Set it to use if your MP hit less than 10%

I think it only refills a tiny amount though so it's as useless as first aid.

The one that reduces defense is pretty op

Just set someone to auto cast it on any boss and p soon you do crazy damage per hit without even trying

But first you have to get it. The issue isn't that there are no useful Technicks, it's that they're real annoying to get, and unlike spells you don't get lots of them incrementally. This means that all the non-spellcasting classes end up being basically the same, except they wear different armor and wield different weapons.
