Lol Porno is the best track on Reflektor. Funny thing is that one is not a unpopular opinion.

Lame.

And it's even more confusing because Porno sounds like an EN song.

Yeah there needed to be more Regine on this. I don't have a huge problem with the talk-singing both because it's not like other bands haven't done it successfully in the past (The Clash, Talking Heads) and because it plays into a lot of the record's (only moderately successful) satire of modern culture where everyone's over it, "it" being whatever you want to stick into that sentence. But Electric Blue is a true standout on this thing and I would be interested to see a more electro-pop Arcade Fire than the dance-punk disco they've relied on recently.

Porno is good, Reflektor is good not great, this one continues to be good not great but it's getting a hell of a bad rap. The true test will be to see if the new stuff captures an audience, and considering Lolla is the ultimate test as it'll be a sea of people coming for every known genre of music, we'll know the answer shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday night.

The pan flute was apperantly the genesis of the entire song tho lol

Win was working on a remix of the song it comes from and was like yknow what gently caress it

After a few more listens I don't mind the Infinite Content duo and I really like We Don't Deserve Love.

The only song I really dislike is Chemistry.

Infinite Content is ok if you ignore the terrible lyrics, the first half sounds like one of their galloping rock songs with a blanket tossed over it. This album makes me want to hear Bangalter produce a straight up guitar rock album without as much of an eye on disco or whatever, the tones and sounds he gives bass and guitars are delicious.

Noctourniquet was probably Mars Volta's least memorable album IMO but I still would've 1,000% preferred a new Volta album over Everything Now.

When I think sax volta im thinking Amputechture and Bedlam

And lol at comparative pf scoring on top of trusting them that much in the first place. Not to mention how badly pf needs to match up with their fanbases opinion of mega drops like an AF album.

Here's some premium-grade dream pop for you guys — a band from Vermont called Bleach Day. A little samey, but workmanlike, and impressive enough. I'd definitely see them live if I had the chance.

looking for a recommendation from this thread from a while back. i remember listening to them at the time and digging it, but promptly forgot about them.

it was a band someone recommended as being a similar style to bon ivers 22, a million. i believe it was a country/folk band, if i recall? it had heavy effects-laden vocals (hence the 22, a million comparison) and was sorta folk/country...prog?

this ringing a bell for anyone?

The new Arcade Fire album is brilliant when you realize who it's targetting and what it was designed to do.

The track and album in ways paints how much the advent of social media has insulated people to their own lifestyles. These feedback loops are referenced all over the album — but seem to have been recreated almost perfectly by the polarized response to it.

That's a lot of words about a concept that is painfully obvious. There's nothing about this album that's subtle, the problem is "hey maybe being inundated with 'content' and enveloped by technology has led to an even greater disconnect between us on a personal and social level" isn't an expecially biting or unique criticism. They've treated it like an art piece, replete with ironic social media marketing campaigns, faux brands, etc. which is all fine and good. Maybe their mission was more than just music in this case and maybe they believe they accomplished it, but ultimately the part where I have to sit down and listen is the worst part.

Post-Funeral Win B will always saddle an album with at least 30 minutes worth of super terrible lyrics, the word "kids" and preachy captain obvious poo poo and it just happens that this one is only really like 39 minutes long and he was particularly mad about Netflix having a bunch of Transmorphers movies in his queue that day.

It's a pretty cool concept.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xOwifZ_BN4

And the fact that Win says in his latest interview that "We're a International band, we're going to Colombia..Mexico...Do you really think people in Mexico like the kind of music hipsters in brooklyn like now days?" is pretty loving cool and more aware than probably anything I've heard from any "Indie" band.

The story about them doing a secret show overseas of all new music and the most popular song they end up play being the track people dislike most kind of cements how much I like this album. The fact that my ESL wife who hates indie music and loves salsa loves that track too kind of seals it for me.

I can't wait for the Salsa Arcade Fuego album.
