I love how trucks and SUVs are safer than cars and sedans because a vehicle that rides higher can just drive up on the hood of a car.

my first car accident:
A dipshit in an early Neon ran a red light at 55mph. I was THIRD in line turning left and he pegged me drat near at speed.
Luckily I was driving my dad's Ram1500 and basically just monster trucked the poo poo out of his hood. If I was driving my Ranger I'd probably be dead or at least turbo-hosed.

On the other hand, I don't think under ride bars were also meant to handle a car getting rear ended and pushed into the under ride bar by another tractor trailer. :stare:

They really should be designed with that also in mind plus factor of safety (or a generous enough factor of safety to account to that situation) but as usual it's probably made to be cheap and just barely within regulation if that.

They're also build to be lightweight, since having a heavy (robust) under ride bar means less payload.

If the under ride bar were strong enough to prevent that, you'd just end up folding the car up between two 18 wheelers.

What if we replaced the underide bard with a ramp? If you rear-end a trailer you would pull a sick jump instead of being decapitated, and if you're rear-ended by another rig you might make it to low Earth orbit.

Really if you're going to fall that kind of distance there's probably nothing better for you to be in than a car.

Long as you got your belt on I imagine the crumple zones work more or less the same as they would in an accident. Seems like it'd tend to fall engine first as well since it's so heavy

Looks like a 435i coupe.

Which puts it at about 3,775 lbs. Going 46mph, that's 3.6204e+5 Joules.
That's a lot of force.

If one car falls off your garage, it was probably a lovely driver. If two fall off your garage in a matter of months, you probably have a hosed up garage.

Also sketchy as hell, but at least the pipes look like they'd hold a lot better than those wires. Nonetheless, I steer clear of parking decks with hosed up designs like those.
