At this point it's worth mentioning that this game had a co-op multiplayer mode that covers stuff in between missions. Sadly I never got to play more than the first one which takes place in the same ninja village so I don't know what they cover. Oh, update on other page.

Is preventing the alarm in the final courtyard optional? If so, does it change anything about the cutscene?

The cat's eye thing is supposed to be telling the time based on pupil shape, caused by dilation depending on ambient light outdoors. Obviously this is already approximate as gently caress under best conditions, and falls apart pretty quickly with weather, cover, artificial light, catmood, etc.

I know there's a multiplayer co-op campaign that has some in-between missions, and right after this mission is where one of them would take place. I can't quite figure out how to get a local LAN hosted server working so I can record that. So that might not be happening. I'm looking around and seeing plenty of info on how to make multiplayer work but haven't found this particular problem.

I'm not sure Isako is particularly evil. She's just forced to do a job for a lovely boss. Also I don't think her body count is anywhere near Cate's.

I'll be busy with something else around that time but I'll see what comes to me. I remember it being a fun but very goofy tron game. Basically consider a tongue in cheek disney movie in video game form. Like in the movie, a human gets maguffined into being a computer program and it turns out all computer programs have full personalities. The social place to hang out after work is the Progress Bar. The (antagonistic-ish) head of the security forces is called ... the Kernel. etc. etc. etc. Like NOLF, it's got its tongue embedded firmly in cheek.

Something I should mention, for anyone interested in playing these games themselves. Obviously they're in rights hell and no one wants to make any money apparently so they're drat near impossible to find. I won't toss up any direct links but there's a project called NOLF Revival. The games are available for download and they're fully patched to work on modern systems, from what I've seen. I have physical copies of the games so I haven't touched it, but if you're looking to play then maybe that's your jam.

The coop for NOLF2 is really nice. The first level is a bit annoying because it's essentially an escort quest, but other than that it's a short bit of fun.

Isako's honor makes her my favorite video game kunoichi (sorry Kunoichi from Samurai Warriors, you're number two). Much more fun with her is ahead.

Having watched 4/5s of the first game's lp today, I can see what you mean about the humor being different. The writing in NOLF is very good, but I think the humor they're going for in this game is more "accessible." The incongruity of deadly assassins and gossip is humorous superficially if nothing else.

I'm looking forward to seeing you play this. I was in on the ground floor when it first came out, but after one too-short playthrough it didn't grab me as firmly as the original game. It has some great setpieces, though.Xander77 posted:Is it possible to do non-lethal stealth in this game? You have ways to knock guards out, but they'll always get back up sooner or later. One of the upcoming levels is particularly bad with perpetually-spawning guards, to the point where it's easier to just run and gun rather than waste time stealthily taking everyone out.

It's much more fun to stealth though, especially if you raise the difficulty to make enemies a little tougher to just gun down.

This is why I said the game encourages avoiding enemies rather than killing them. dscruffy1 posted:Mmmmmmaybe? I'd never considered it but it is a game that exists. Tron 2.0 is a remarkable story with great characters and a surprisingly deep system design, bogged down by FPS platforming, enemy AI that can bullseye you from across the map before you see them, and progression indicators that were far too typical for the time. Hard to believe there was a point when Tron was underappreciated nostalgia that seemed stuck in the Disney vaults forever, and Monolith wasn't owned by Warner Bros. Slave Labor Graphics released some Tron 2.0 comic books that continued the story a bit further, and if you ignore the non-appearance of some key characters, Tron: Legacy *could* still include the 2.0 story as canon. But Tron 2.0 came out the year after NOLF 2 and uses the same tech with a few extra features NOLF2 didn't have. That's about as much as they have in common.

I mean one of the gimmicks of ninjas is supposed to be hiding weapons in plain sight, and parasol/umbrellas were something any woman might carry, so they are perfect platforms for disguising swords.

I played this game three times. Once got stuck on first mission, second time a bit later, third time I finished it. As it was translated version, I missed a lot. And forgot a lot of it, too. Very interesting to see references to first game, whose LP I just finished watching. I do remember that I prioritized upgrading Search, for more you find, more Points you get for more upgrades! Oh, and Soviet Official Memos have transliterated english instead of russian in headers. Third of the words are almost the same, mind. People appear to need somewhat more killing compared to the first game. Foil is used in wrapping some candies and chocolate bars. That soldier may had sweet tooth. Ah, radio tower. The drum at middle height is long-range microwave relay antenna, perfect for this situation. The three... vertical flat things on stand-offs around the tower body, at the same level as the relay drum? They look exactly like modern 2G cell tower antennas. Haven't seen what's on the top of the antenna, so no comments.

Goddamn, I like wine as much as the next man, but the Sensei's glass is as big as his head! Edit: OK, this game didn't start it, and neither was it the last game to do it, but am I the only person who gets really irritated in FPS' when your character chambers a round the instant they take out a gun? I remember having my mind blown in the first Halo when you reloaded the sniper rifle before you emptied a clip and M.C. didn't pull back the slide. It is nice to see that the UNITY workshop finally released the CT-180, besides the initial problems in the first game. Now is it a infiltration device or meant for emercency extractions, scruffy? (No, i would not know that detail, if i did finish up watching the NOLF lp lately.)
