Star Citizens try to figure out how inventory will work. https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/6wk3es/still_unclear_about_inventory_system_anyone_got_a/quote:They've mentioned before (in more places than I can remember) how all items will be actual, physicalized items that you must put down and pick up and attach to your body the same way you would in the real world. Wanna take that sniper rifle with you on your trip? Better find a place to store it on your ship. Your Sabre doesn't have an FPS weapons rack that'll fit your sniper rifle? Guess you won't be taking that sniper rifle with you then. It was a big disappointment to Buccaneer fans when the weapons rack it cut during it's design. That said, things could change. I do really like the idea of not having to run around your Connie trying to remember which locker you put your multi-tool in. quote:It is a pretty huge change if what you see is what you get has gone, and magic inventory (without even a backpack on) is permanent, rather than just a placeholder. quote:You have to be near the items your "moving" and the item your "moving" them too. In the demo you refer to they were next to the locker with the clothes. You could not do that if you were not near the locker. Or if the locker did not have the clothes you were selecting (an impossibility as they would not be selectable) In other demos you can see cargo for ships (where cargo will need to be near the ship). Leave it to your imagination on all the economic buy/sell things also but in the end - A must be near B to form AB quote:They also equipped some weapons when disembarking the Rover at the crash site, but it could be they were in range of the Rover's lockers. quote:Supposedly - and I say that guardedly - they have the full system running underneath all this in the demo. Which makes me think there was a real locker (during spawn in) that had the clothes they selected and put on. And that the buggy also had the weapons they equipped inside of it. Seems a placeholder would be more trouble than it's worth. But - I don't know the answer - placeholder or not - how I was describing it is how it should work in the end game. And supposedly 3.0. A must be near B to create AB.

D_Smart posted:And it's almost as if all these questions that are coming up, following the disastrous GC2017, are all the same questions that loving Derek Smart guy has been asking, and writing about since July 2015 It's so frustrating when you actually know something, have lived it, done it, seen it from the inside, and speak from experience, only to have know-nothing blowhards, who think they know better than you, just poo poo all over the evidence and facts. The nice thing about facts is, they're true whether you believe them or not. But this recent ability to create social networks that are completely insulated from facts and, worse, the desire to know, is a huge failure of the internet as a whole, and Star Citizen is a perfect microcosm of the vapid, repressive fabric that our civilization happily wraps over its eyes like a blindfold. Everyday people have absolutely NO idea how hard making even a simple game is (Neither does Chris Roberts for that matter). Unless you've done it... unless you've designed a character controller with accurate collisions, or a basic car that drives around an oval track (forget a ramp), or tried to make a 3d model person with a walking animation and connecting it to a character controller, and seen how a simple idea explodes in complexity upon implementation, then your only option is to judge a game by working code that you can actually play, or listen to people who do know. But if the Shitizens did that, their dreamy mental pillow fort would poof right out of existence, and they would see a messy, ugly world that doesn't match their dreams because they never get to practice seeing the world for the beautiful, perfect mess is actually is. Star Citizens only core value is a shared delusion which gives a feeble sense of "belonging" to people with very poor self esteem and/or brain damage.

Firewatch is a bloody good game, playing through it now and if you kinda like a little mystery along with a really engrossing world some really top notch voice acting and script and lots of walking, then I wholeheartedly recommend it. It's one of those games that pulls you into the story and the world, and its bloody hard to put down.

DapperDon posted:Go on... People upthread have already talked about the "phoenix" option - CIG goes insolvent, oh no, but luckily Chris's cousin Ris Choberts and his new company WIG can quickly buy up the assets for pennies on the dollar/pound/euro, save Star Citizen, and host a fresh round of fundraising because the project needs help to get going again! PS: all contractual obligations you may erroneously remember from the last incarnation were actually with CIG which has no relation at all to WIG, bad luck if you wanted a refund or thought you owned a ship. This is one of the classic reasons to have the money spread across many so many subsidiary companies too. Company A gets sued? Oh dear Company A holds no cash or assets of any value, they've all been shuffled off very quickly to companies B, C, D, F, R, and Q. It's a standard corporate exit strategy and works because creditors don't think it's cost-effective to employ forensic accountants to sort out which company holds which assets, when they can just write off their losses for a tax refund and move on. Worse, smaller creditors simply haven't got the manpower to wade through the sea of paperwork this generates. I've seen this strategy in action many times and I firmly believe Ortwin knows of it. But, by taking the loan from Coutts they've crossed off that option. If CIG default on their loan, Coutts will seize the Star Citizen IP alongside assets held by whatever corporation actually signed their loan paperwork, and Coutts are old enough and nasty enough to have very very expensive lawyers on standby to wade through a maze of subsidiaries and demand that suspicious transactions be unwound. Even if they don't bother unwinding in that situation, they'll hold the IP itself and preclude further work on the game. They might even potentially hold a floating charge (i.e have secured the loan on £X of all assets held by CIG anywhere, the exact assets to be decided if the charge "crystalises" when the loan is called in). I have seen phoenixed companies carefully ensure they'll be the only bidder at the receivers' auction, thereby ensuring they have access to their parent's assets at bankruptcy-auction prices. Whether or not CIG could go that route is entirely idle speculation at this point. To be honest if CIG goes under I can't see the Roberts brothers caring enough; they'll take their profits and disappear. EDIT: I see you asked specifically about the US thing...well, getting money from a debtor on the other side of the Atlantic is an administrative nightmare, especially when that debtor is trying to claim it's a wholly unconnected company. US and UK branches of multinational corporations often ruthlessly cut off the smaller branch and let it twist in the wind if they hit financial trouble. "Payroll claim? What payroll claim, this is Multinational Bastards US not Multinational Bastards UK, I have no idea what you're talking about!" So if Foundry 42 does go dark, even if the cause of the shutdown is the stoppage of payments from CIG-US, then the first warning sign will be all the staff who CIG wants to keep paying suddenly moving to the US, probably along with whatever remaining funds are in F42's accounts at that point. This could potentially apply vice-versa, but I can't see Chris shutting down his Hollywood Dream Studio under any circumstances. Loxbourne fucked around with this message at 22:18 on Aug 31, 2017 |
