I may have never had a good avocado, I find it by itself to be kind of bland. Guacamole and other stuff made out of avocado + spices is great though.

My mother in law makes this odd dish made of potatoes, avocados and char siu. It's allright, but I've never seen it anywhere else. Looks disgusting though.

I can't imagine that turning out better than horribly dry, overcooked beef. Then again I'm not in the habit of cooking raw meat in the microwave.

It's what microwave ovens were invented to do. It takes more effort to make sure the food cooks evenly, and the food won't brown in the same way as a normal oven, though. Same principle as microwaving a whole, raw potato.

Avocado needs salt and acid to shine. Otherwise, if you don't like the flavor, it is kind of a bland mess. I always thought I hated avocado until I started preparing it myself. I once went to some hipster bar in Oakland and tried their avocado fries; they were completely unsalted/unseasoned and tasted like greasy paper.
