There is an app called kinscreen that keeps your screen on by detecting angle or motion which allows you to keep the screen timeout low but keep the screen on while you are using it. It also detects when It is laid down and will turn the screen off, and can allow indefinite screen on time via tapping the notification. It also allows turning on and off the screen via the proximity sensor so it comes on when you pull it out of your pocket. It's good https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teqtic.kinscreen

That seems pretty neat. I'm going to try it out to keep my screen on when its sitting on this stupid little desk stand I have...

I'm tempted but now I just leave my screen timeout at five minutes and don't have battery worries. This really makes me want to tinker with something just to be tinkering which I feel is a bad habit to indulge.

This really makes me want to tinker with something just to be tinkering which I feel is a bad habit to indulge. I leave my screen timeout at 10 minutes and also don't have any battery woes. Still, always-on > 10 minutes! There wasn't really tinkering with the app, I just installed it, clicked the right box on the main screen, and I was done. Not sure, I'm going to keep it, because as discussed in the Android Thread, screen burn-in is a thing that happens. I do get your general point, though. It's why I haven't had Tasker installed for many years.

Ever since they gave us the toggles in the notification bar, I've used Quick Actions to put a screen timeout toggle in there. (I have no idea why it's called "Quick ActionS" as the only thing it can do is put that toggle in your QSP.) Not really because I toggle it often but moreso because it's one thing I would change if I were going to change anything and coming up with six things I might need to adjust quickly is impossible. I really hate that toggle bar because there's nothing I need so accessible that they're always visible but there are things I want to be able to dig into if necessary. Now I need to put the six things I will toggle first like Airplane, Flashlight, and DND before things that I will never under any circumstances toggle off but that I consider important info to have like carrier connectivity, wifi, and Bluetooth. I liked it far better when everything was on the quick settings panel and that was that.

I finally had a chance to use Google Duo and gotdamn does that work nicely. Granted we were both presumably on wifi, but there wasn't a single hiccup. The times I've used Hangouts video chat, it was somewhat lovely even with both people on wifi.

There was an update to either Inbox or Gmail lately that weirdly enough disabled notifications on each of my mailbox accounts. I had to go back and re-enable them one by one. Sounds like maybe that happened to you?

Is there a shift-f5 type full page refresh in the Chrome app or do you just have to clear the entire cache?

Vykk.Draygo posted:Is there a shift-f5 type full page refresh in the Chrome app or do you just have to clear the entire cache? Incognito every time on that site? It'd only be a pain for 2-factor auth sites or ones without saved passwords. OR: This won't help for a Chrome-locked person, but Firefox "Focus" browser is built for this case (or porn I guess). Fresh sites and history each time.

Ten minutes after googling the name "Frank Grimes" I received the creepiest survey: Yes Google I have. You told me Frank Grimes is a "Simpsons" character. Can you possibly be any more creepy? Where is my quarter, and thanks.

Yes, ad company Google keeps a record of things you search for. Is this news to you?
|
# ? Oct 4, 2017 21:23 |

Certainly not. They did solicit feedback before, but never in the form of a paid survey related to a singular google search ten minutes after the search was performed on a different device. I mean obviously nothing stops them from doing that on a regular basis, it's just that this is the first time it actually happened to me.
