Yeah no I know exactly what you're talking about and just hope I haven't been so stupid. I really dont think I have. I've rechecked my security settings and adnvcaced settings multiple times on all my devices (in case settings are cloud based and not device specific) and I wrote to AgileBits yesterday and haven't heard anything. I will do a reinstall if I see it again and it's not me being dumb. Thank ya.

I'm looking for a new music app, and I haven't seen anything that matches exactly what I want.

I used to have a huge mp3 library and I used iTunes match to stream it. Now, I mostly listen to internet radio and podcasts, but I still like to play some of my favorite albums sometimes. I don't really get enough value out of iTunes Match to keep paying for it, and I definitely don't want to pay for Spotify etc. Is there a music player app that can just stream mp3s stored in iCloud Drive or Dropbox or something? I don't really have a huge library anymore, but I'd like to be able to instantly stream the music I do download on my computer. I don't want to have to go back to manually syncing my iPhone and iPad.

1Password would only ask for the Master Password every time I booted the phone, but still had the thumbprint icon. Something changed after iOS, and now I have to press the button every time to use the fingerprint. I don't know if it was iOS or an update to the app, but something did change for me as well. (Although that icon is still always there.)

I think Cesium does iCloud stuff. Not sure. It is free for a limited time though, so you might want to give it a shot.

I think it was a 1Password update. I noticed the same thing in iOS10. There's a timeout. If I use the TouchID to unlock 1Password, it defaults to TouchID for a certain amount of time after that. After X minutes of not accessing 1Password it reverts to the Master Password.

It appears to be the same time interval as the AutoLock setting in 1Password.

I've also got a weird request. Are there any camera apps with absolutely no on-screen controls?

Thank you for this. One of my favorite playlists has been insta-crashing the Music app but Cesium plays it just fine.

How does plex work as a music player? Conceivably you could have all your music in the cloud like Spotify? Does it work well as an interface as features?

I can confirm that the icon is not there for me and it wants my master password even though the device has not been restarted and Touch ID has not failed.

As a Fantastical non-user, I have a question about it.

I use my calendar a lot, and I also use reminders a lot. They go hand-in-hand for me, so I would like to be able to use them both at the same time, in the same app. Is this something Fantastical does well?

I've held off on using Fantastical just because I've tried replacing stock apps before, but I always eventually come back to them because they're the only apps that I can really rely on to keep working for me over the years. I might give it a shot though.

Reminders in Fantastical seem to work pretty well. They're listed with calendar events but have a check box next to them. I think the checkbox is colored according to the reminders list they're on.

Oh no
And if you’re wondering, Fantastical also lets you choose which Reminders lists you want it to interact with.

Also its lock screen widget lets you check off reminder entries with one tap just like the Reminder widget does, so you don’t lose anything there.

You need to install a Plex server on a home computer to access your files via the plex client. You don't just load stuff up into a cloud service, it's a bit more involved.

Also offline syncing requires you to spend $5 / month on their premium service. I tried using it for music for a bit but had a weird problem where tracks I synced offline would randomly stop playing as if they weren't offline and were streaming on a bad network connection. Maybe that's something they've fixed since I stopped using it for music but not a great indication of its quality overall.

Or you can pay for 30 months up front for a lifetime Plex Pass. It's the best if you can afford it. Plex Pass is pretty sweet value for the price.

I'm sure you can understand why people who download TV and movies to stream from their personal Netflix (Plex) server wouldn't want to drop $150 on a lifetime subscription to make it easier to stream to their phones.

I've just moved over from Android and the only thing I can't find are apps that :

1. Have certain apps require an extra fingerprint login

2. Create a hidden folder for media storage

Any recommendations?

It's up to the app developer to implement this feature, but it's possible. Microsoft's Outlook for example can be configured to require an additional fingerprint or pin code. I'm sure there are more that can do that too.

Thanks - I'm after an extra privacy app like AppLock on Android as The apps I want to restrict don't have it natively enabled.

And Safari private browsing won't cut it for locally saved media files.

Is there a reason Touch ID/passcode aren’t enough security already?

That said, if we’re talking a situation where you want to hand your phone to your coworker to see a specific app or game or something but don’t want them poking around elsewhere I recommend setting up Guided Access.

There's no "today" or "yesterday." I swipe down and all the reminders are there as always, but there's no x anywhere to clear them. I turned the phone off and back on again and the behavior is the same. Whether the phone is locked or unlocked I see what appears to be the same reminder screen as before the iOS upgrade but there's nothing to click on to clear the reminders.

I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing.

If you are trying to clear a mass of notifications, this is what I see for a notification screen with the day-named sections.

If you are trying to mark an actual reminder complete, you need to 3d touch the reminder.

If you want to remove a reminder from the notification screen without marking it complete, you need to swipe it left

If you’re not trying to do any of these or your screens look different, I’m not certain.

Is there a recommended cellular data management app?

I'm specifically looking for something that will notify me if my data usage suddenly spikes beyond some daily baseline (such as Google Drive deciding to chew through 350MB when I open one small spreadsheet :argh:

Low battery usage would be ideal. My Data Manager had plenty of features like this, but chewed through battery and seemed to cause occasional network issues. After uninstalling the network issues stopped.

You're not going to find an app that lets you require additional security to open a different app on iOS. (At least, not in the app store. I don't know if there are jailbroken ones that do that.)

I do that, then sometimes the button disappears for new notifications that I've already "seen" by unlocking and using my phone. I'll end up in a situation where I have 5-10 notifications and no way to clear them in bulk. It's annoying. And then sometimes the "today" clear button removes some (but not all) notifications above it which is just weird. The there's swiping. Swipe down to see content teased in from the bottom. I get it is for retraining but boy does it feel janky. Unless the phone is unlocked, in which case that retraining is invalid. Swipe right to see widgets that are woefully out of date and wait for updates. Swipe left to get trapped in the camera app. The whole thing is a garbled mess, but it's better than iOS 10.

Hey dudes I'm looking for a podcast app recommendation. The new ios11 podcast app is horrible. Its slow as poo poo on my 5s (yeah yeah its old but i cant afford an upgrade) but the biggest issue is that I can no longer see the episodes I have downloaded and when I'm not playing the newest ones in a podcast like last podcast on the left that has 280+ episodes and I have to try to remember which it was and scroll to that point its unreasonable.

Am I blind and there is a way I can do what I want it too like the old app or is there a new better one?
