edit: actually a dating sim that slapped on a shitton of content warnings but actually ended up being incredibly PG would be kinda funny. double reverse fluff fakeout

Just gotta keep walking down that road.
I'm a little surprised they ended up making DDLC completely free, probably could've made at least a decent profit if it was a couple of bucks or something. Already before its steam release there was a lot of "youtubers will probably make this game go viral" rumbling going around.

But yeah, if you want to know what it's all about it's probably best to play it now while it's still fresh. It's one of those small weird games that can quickly become a victim of its fandom's excited overhyping, which is partially what happened with Undertale.

How did this smug dummkopf ever make general?

Took me 4 hours. It was brilliant. I can sleep now.

E: Technically post-game spoilers - Apparently there's an ARG type thing going on with the game too? This Reddit post has a good deal of information in it if you want to learn more about that.

Definitely excited for literally anything else this studio puts out.

Took me two hours here, give or take breaks to walk my pup and deal with some family stuff, but... wow. That was good. Disturbing. Seeing as it's free and short, I highly recommend it!

About that anime game:

Gonna have to dissent. Is this all just some in-joke to trick people into playing a visual novel that turns into a horror game? It does some interesting stuff but I hate horror games and definitely wouldn't have bothered if I knew that's where it was going. I even had to endure a visual novel to get there!

You know, I keep on getting mad that I let my Humble Monthly subscription keep rolling, especially when I already own the headliner game... but then I end up playing at least one game enough that 12 bucks doesn't feel like that much of a hit to the wallet.

This time around it's Shrouded Isle. Just lost most of an afternoon "solving" the game -- it really reminds me of Tharsis in terms of a turn-based character/resource management game where characters die brutal deaths and you're just trying to hang onto the end against a punishing RNG. But it's not as punishing as Tharsis -- that game took me about 80 runs to finally get to the end (although people on these forums were telling me to "GIT GUD" about a dice rolling game) while I've just won two runs of Shrouded Isle in a row. Fun six hours, though! (Also it fits the spooky October theme with its cosmic horror cult stuff)

I guess I should give Scanner Sombre a look next. Also, there are actually a few games I want to check out from the Humble Trove, so that's another incentive to keep subscribed.

That Bethesda trash heap coming up has me probably thinking I might let next month go, though.

Well... I don't know, people have been saying all right things about Elder Scrolls Online haven't they

Before I get in on this Doki Doki Literature Club experience, please tell me if there is any horror in it? I'm ok with dark themes, but horror's constant tension and jump scares give me too much anxiety. A simple "It's not horror, go ahead" or "Yes horror, please avoid" is fine.

There's a content warning on the main page and the game makes you click through like two more just to play it. Like, I get not liking it, but it isn't "tricking" the player in any way, man

I felt like quake champions was really bad and boring. I played it near the start of the beta or whatever and a lot of the art was really poo poo and the sound design was horrible.

The running theme this year seems to be mild-to-big disappointment.

Honestly, after four years of this I'm kinda down to my junk drawer of horror in my backlog. I front-loaded some of the crap so there are some good games coming up later, but I don't really have a SOMA or a Last Door to get super excited about.

I might be able to fix that before the month ends, though. I'm in the process of finding out exactly how much clout I have as a reviewer.

I think I had to save and quit out of Doki Doki Lit right when it was getting good. I wasn't super convinced until I realized it erased my saves from the first run.
