Lol they sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of spaceships to people and now they're using that to make up security issues to further delay another beta release. I'm betting there's already some new higher tier insurence scam idea lurking between future patch notes.

Chris has already made it abundantly clear that he has no idea how to deal with the "Have a friend steal my ship and then make an insurance claim on it blammo two ships" issue. At one point he was seriously considering in-game insurance adjusters whose job would be to go around and root out insurance fraud. I believe there was mention that it would just be a job any player could do, like any other mission. There were also some convoluted thoughts revolving around unique hull-numbers and the idea that if you stole a spaceship from someone you'd have to go to a shady dealer to get the numbers filed off which would cost a bunch of money and be dangerous, until it was pointed out that that still didn't solve the issue.

As it currently stands in game ships are incredibly easy to steal. Once the 'owner' opens the door even a single time it will open for anyone, but even if the owner isn't there yet, any ship that has a single turret is able to be entered by going to the outside of the turret and selecting the "USE" prompt that shows up because CIG can't figure out the clipping issues. In many cases getting into a 'locked' ship is as simple as using your EVA nipplejets to thrust into it at full speed and magically clipping through the solid wall to the inside.

e: unless we're talking about some new news about CIG losing my credit card information or something, which in that case just lol

Once subsumption 2.0 is in, the AI itself will resolve all these tough issues for Chris. I think that's his actual plan.

I also can't wait to grind up to my next ship by doing 500 insurance claim investigation missions! Engaging gameplay. That's exactly what real insurance companies do as well. They let random Joes off the street investigate their multi-million dollar claims for just a couple benjamins in payment.

Insurance scams are easy fix. Giving someone a ship involves transferring rights to them, so there is no 'here you go'. If someone steals your ship, and you want the insurance, you must flag it as stolen. Stolen ship is now marked as open target or some other police poo poo.

Still allows piracy and useful theft by some arsehole forcing some arsehole to transfer ownership rights using... some system where something has a value ever. Threats of murdering your player character?

... I have no idea how this game is meant to work. I know all the little side poo poo. I have no idea what the important poo poo is.

The collision will cause the player to either die or moved off the ship he is standing on. And if he is moved off and doesn't die, he will be back in EVA mode as he will no longer be resting on anything.

You can see this in the 6hr stream I recently did btw. Not sure of the time stamp though.

Ok so I take the most expensive ship in SC, and let my friend steal it 100 times and flag it all 100 times. I have LTI so I get 100 free ships. I just created 100 copies of the most expensive ship in the game out of thin air.

Conceivably, this could be somewhat curtailed by the ship manufacturer.

Cranking out a Toyota Yaris is a lot quicker than an aircraft carrier.

All these inane roles that would envelope players in obnoxious busy-work that doesn't even involve flying a loving space-ship and ensnare other people in a tedious wait for their claim to be investigated. An insurance fraud investigator turns up, notes that indeed the player's ship is no longer there, and denies the claim on the grounds hahaha gently caress you. I mean the Persistant Alphaverse comes out and all anyone does is steal ships and crash into each other, they can get rightly hosed if they think someone isn't going to take on a job that lets them flush people's cash down a toilet just to troll the everloving poo poo out of them. Any system designed to mitigate the harm of someone engaging in that sort of chicanery just adds even more time.

This isn't even "Waiting to get from Point A to Point B" levels of tedium. It's "I get to do loving nothing with the thing I have because I have to wait for someone to finish roleplaying a salaryman and hope he doesn't gently caress me"

They have no respect for the people shoveling money at them. One of the fundamental core concepts of something they pushed to encourage people to BUY NOW on things that weren't even in existence and they can't even sit down and think of a way to make it work.

No, because you see we can't forget that Chris Roberts also wants shipbuilding to tie in dynamically with the economy and local resources so that your replacement ship might only be rebuilt within the next 8 months. This won't take into account striking workers and unethical work conditions or even random acts of nature such as a hurricane knocking out the power generator to the area which the factory is located in.

That was another thing they considered doing, and may still be considering - if your Javelin gets hosed you have to wait for a new one to become available, in addition to paying your insurance claim fee in SPACEBUX. Exactly. If you don't think I'd sign up as an insuance adjuster in a heartbeat just to deny claims all day then you don't know how little value I put on my time. The thing about all this poo poo is because of the prices they're getting for some of these ships they're absolutely going to end up pissing off half their userbase no matter what they do. It's the same thing for the "How long will it take to earn this in game" conversation. If it takes three years to earn an Idris, it's essentially pay to win for everyone who just bought one instead. If you can get it in a week of hard gaming, all those morons who spent $1500 on their BigSpaceDick are going to be livid. CIG painted themselves into a corner that there's just no way out of, and that's even before we get to the part where they have to make all this poo poo work in an MMO lol.

Not to mention if some of the AI were slacking off and made some mistakes building your ship. Or maybe the ship specialists were all killed off and so we have to wait for more to be trained.

Its the new guild Meta.

Thats why they bough multiple copy of the same ship with LTI. Those ships are "Blueprint Originals" that wil always respawn(with a timer) when destroyed/stolen. You let those get stealed by guildies/allies, thus creating "Blueprint Copies" that cant respawn, but that does not matter untill OPS day since the "copies" are left untouched into hangar. Come OPS day every guild member can go in the first wave with the best ships in game. The more ships with LTI your guild have, the faster you can recuperate loss untill next big OPS. I hope you love big Polaris/Idris dogfights (biggest ships sold with modules built in with LTI, so far)

Tl;DR : gently caress interacting with the economy if you have enough LTI ships.

Some filthy leaker wrote his opinion on some of the new flight model changes

quote:

Ok here we go

SCM speeds are a little down

First scenario tested with Constelation Aquila

AFB stage 1 works similar to what we have now

As soon as you go in a straight line for 3 secs it starts to rev up

Then the Connie slowly accelerates to 1k+

The second scenario was tested with a Gladius

Gladius speed is at 220

AFB goes up to 330

Same procedure, 3 seconds, and the Gladius accelerates to 984

That means...

That the Aquila have a higher vcap

than the Gladius

but the Gladius accelerates faster to 984

A third scenario will be tested soon with a SH

so we will have the confirmation

But as far as it goes

Looks like bigger ships will have a Stage 2 vcap higher than smaller ships

Is this a viable thing to do to evade enemies?

well yes

this creates a very interesting gameplay situation

basically a larger ship have a T-X

if they manage to acquire this time

then it can simply run from agressors

while the agressors have the same T-X

to try and damage/stop/intercept the bigger ship

probably we will have bubbles(EVE) in the future blocking quantumn tralve

travel*

so this will force a situation where you'll need to stay at least for a while if you want to get past to certain locations

How easy is it to trigger forceful decelleration from Type II using the mouse?

if you even slightly change vector it slows down

also you pull a poo poo ton of Gs
