The most common complaint I hear from people at my work when I put hockey on is it's hard to follow. The glo-puck helped with that, but I know the purists hated it so much.

Didn't realize that the 1st down line in football was a descendant of it though. That makes the game so much easier to follow these days.

Yeah the Fox glow puck and the XFL of all things both went a long way to kick off a lot of the standard things we see in sports broadcasts these days. It's neat to look back on.

I fully expect this to be the year that the Caps surprise everybody by somehow eking out a playoff series win against the Penguins or just a trip to the ECF by any path, and then promptly shatter the false hope built up by their seeming Cinderella run by going no further.

It's not inconceivable. At the end of the day, as much as we as humans like to make narratives about championships that attribute them to human agency, the world is chaos and a not insignificant contributing factor is just plain dumb luck.

I don't usually think about this outside of May.

Make the puck get brighter and brighter, only resetting on a goal.

That will increase scoring because players will put extra effort into goals to avoid permanent eye damage, and also push those that still don't use a visor into adding one.

I guess there is a theoretical albeit highly unlikely chance that Niemi could be salvaged into at least a bad backup rather than a totally irredeemable one. And Florida plays tighter d than the Pens so maybe that will help.

e: Btw Luongo was hurt because of the Pens running him so they couldn't have planned this better if they tried lol

It sounded to me like Niemi got the short end of the stick as to when he was used (back-to-back against Chicago, putting him against the Tampa buzzsaw), so .

It didn't help, but if giving up a touchdown and PAT makes your GAA go down, there's something seriously wrong.

Aaron Portzline recaps John Davidson's contribution to turning the mess that was the CBJ in 2011-12 into a well-oiled machine on the 5th anniversary of his hire:

quote:

Nash was a perennial All-Star. Jeff Carter was a big-time talent. The club had the players to at least compete for a playoff spot, but what looked good on paper quickly fell apart when the season started.

“I'll just say it,” Cam Atkinson said. “It was a shitshow. I was a young guy, so I was in no place to say anything or do anything other than to try my hardest. But it was a situation that really needed help. It needed a culture change.”

Atkinson, Calvert, JMFJ, and Savard are the only players left on the roster from the end of 2012.

Stecher out 4-6 weeks. Vancouver's defense is now Tanev, Del Zotto and four dudes who probably wouldn't make the lineup on at least 25 other teams in the league.

On the plus side Babby Subban might get in to some games.
