I can't imagine any podcast entirely based around that theme would have any ability to avoid just becoming that after like five shows

Yeah, if you're gonna do a debate podcast between a christian and an atheist, you may as well start with theodicy and free will, then probably the creation of the universe, because that's pretty much what most of the other questions will circle back to eventually. That said, if the christian podcaster doesn't hew to a particular solution to the problem of evil and also have a corresponding theological position on free will/predestination, it's kinda hard to see how anything interesting is going to come of the debate since those are the building blocks of Christian apologetics and if they can't at least advance a coherent position, they're really not in a place where they're going to be able to debate in any kind of a meaningful way. Not saying that a discussion between a christian and an atheist couldn't be the basis for an interesting podcast, just that it isn't going to be a debate unless both sides are at least reasonably equipped to actually debate.

Yeah, I guess I am more specifically looking for something that doesn't have like, a religious agenda per se, but still provides a really compelling argument for it. I know that's oddly specific, but edit the next day because I want to bitch about something but I don't want to make a new post: Jesus loving Christ, I somehow deleted five seconds from every single narrator track in Auxacity for the next episode of a podcast. It renders the entire thing unusable. How the gently caress did I do this? credburn fucked around with this message at 14:56 on Sep 13, 2017 |

Any recommendations for good actual play podcasts? Looking for something well produced and horror themed, but which can still be funny sometimes. I guess call of cthulhu stuff? Will also entertain any interesting fantasy/dnd stuff. In the interest of equivalent exchange, I will offer up Pretend Wizards, Tabletop Escapades, and Six Feats Under.

credburn posted:Is there a good atheist/theist debate podcasts? I'm listening to "A Christian and an Atheist" which is pleasant, but I've listened to eight episodes and so far it's pretty much the atheist guy asking why God is so mean and the Christian guy saying well, that's a good question!

I loved the old Stuff Mom Never Told You podcast but I don't like the new hosts. One of their voices is just grating to me, and it seems like it's half kvetching now when it used to be mostly analytical. Cristen and Caroline were just very good podcast hosts and it is too bad HowStuffWorks got rid of them. Any recommendations to fill that hole?

frankie boyle released his own 'podcast', the promethiad. However, the first episode is his latest stand-up routine, the second episode seems to be him reading every column he wrote for the guardian since 2015, but uncensored. It's fascinating but I havn't been able to get through that second one and I think it would have been better cut up into smaller episodes. Don't know if he's planning to do a lot and/or regular updates.

It's sort of weird how small the pool of podcast advertisers are, and how heavily concentrated in newer tech / web companies they seem to be. It stands to reason the population of podcast listeners consumptions patterns aren't that niche and weird.

I'm glad that whatever loophole made Draft Kings legal got closed because having people shill for what was effectively unregulated online gambling was incredibly skeezy. I think the worst though was this one company that was pushing "crowdsourced microloans" that if you looked at the fine print was basically just you putting up the collateral for someone else's high risk payday loan.

Owning a small business probably gives someone the flexibility of listening while working while most 9-5 jobs don't. Mattress talk a got a tuft and needle which I don't think I've heard an add for. Now I just need to justify spending $100 on their pillow.

One or two episodes in particular did a deep dive into the world of Google AdWords. Given that Reply All also has Squarespace ads, I wonder if they have to back off that specific subject.

Reply All is fantastic and the recent two parter was one of the most infuriating things I've listened to in recent memory, the hammer drop at the end of part 1 where you find out the entire thing is being organized by Trump people to try and raise anti-immigrant sentiment was bad enough but the end of part 2 when the skip tracer has a huge crisis of faith about effectively sending the man to his death and then you find out that he wasn't even an undocumented immigrant in the first place is just...ugh. I never thought I'd be rooting for a drunk driver who committed vehicular manslaughter but there you are.

Reply All is seriously so good, for every piece of hard-hitting investigative journalism you get something fun and silly like the origin of those crazy CGI animated GIFs that dominated web 1.0 or explaining loss.jpeg to their boss. The hosts can be kind of goobers at times but it's still a great show.
